I think Austin Ainge is being groomed for this eventually.

The guys I like are all probably staying with the teams they're on. Only Carlisle seems a possibility. But I doubt Portland or Milwaukee are going to let their coaches go.

One guy I really like is Byron Scott. I mean if Bill Sharman can coach the Lakers, I could see Scott coming to the Cs.

Finally a way to make everybody around here happy  ;)

Or if you guys insist on a player who actually has expressed coaching aspirations:

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I honestly wouldn't mind Jeff Van Gundy back in the league. Although he may be an annoying broadcaster sometimes, I liked what he did in Houston.

Become Legendary.

I hope Doc doesn't leave. He has unfinished business here. The window stays open as long as he is here.

If he does leave, how about Kevin McHale as Coach of The Boston Celtics? We already have Danny. I think that would be a Great Thing, IMO. I know that Big Al loved him in Minny.

I wish there was more loyalty up and down NBA teams nowadays. The stars that brought these teams their banners should certainly be given or offered positions within an organization.

Realistically, Carlisle's probably the most likely to be let go by their current team that's actually a good coach.

Collins and SVG just don't do it for me.  I listen to them when I have to on national broadcasts and I'm just not getting a vibe from them that says, "hey, I know basketball".

Unrealistically, I'd love to get either Sloan or Pop.  Tommy H is probably too old to do it but I love his philosophy of running the opposition into the ground.

No to Thibs.  The game where he stepped in for Doc was just that bad that I just don't trust his coaching judgement.  If there's this much criticism of Doc's rotations and minutes management, just wait until Thibs is running it.   :o

I'm not sure who I'd want. but:

1. Coach K - I hate the idea of coach K. Not just because I dislike Duke, but because I don't like a long-time established college coach coming to the NBA. The style of motivation is completely different, as are the front-office requirements (shmoozing and recruiting vs. understanding cap stuff). After the pitino debacle, are we going down that road again?

2. Byron Scott makes Doc Rivers look like the best coach in the world. He arbitrarily burns bridges with talented players, arbitrarily puts players in his doghouse, and he is TERRIBLE, absolutely TERRIBLE at developing any young players. Considering that after this year we are less contenders than this year and closer to a rebuild, Scott would be a terrible choice.

Off the top of my head, here's an unemployed name right now: Avery Johnson

He wouldn't do it, but I like Hubie Brown.  Or Danny Ainge.

  • Rondo = Good

Could be amusing.  Maybe he could teach Perk some moves.
