Why is an article on ESPN's front page pretending there is something special about the US-England matchup? That whole rebellion thing is long gone. I'm not aware of special soccer history between the 2 countries.

USA beat England 1-0 in the 1950 World Cup. One of the bigger upsets in WC history but I think that's pretty much it.

And no, I really don't think England care about the US.

Without surprises it would be Brazil - England  and Spain - Argentina in the semis, but since the most predictable almost never happens, I will go for:

Holland - England

Spain - Germany
The Immortals:

Iker Casillas, Giacinto Facchetti, Alessandro Nesta, Matthias Sammer, Javier Zanetti, Lothar Matthäus (c), Xavi, Zico, Maradona, Roberto Baggio, Ferenc Puskas, Karl Heinz Rummenigge

Coach:Rinus Michels

I like Holland`s style. Roben Schneider Van Persie are a pleasure to watch but they luck a top class striker and i think their naive style of play "we`ll score one more than the opponent: won`t get them past Dunga`s Brazil

Guys I really feel like the Netherlands could pull a surprise or two this year.  Argentina also looks fantastic.

Robben is not 100% fit but still in the squad.

You`ve got a point there. Maradona is not a coach and almost caused the qualification to the WC.

But his presence can work in an El CId manner and give his players an extra motivation. I can`t see this happeening , regardless of the quality of the roster you need a real coach

Who in their right mind hires R.Kelly to perform at the opening ceremony?

The last thing I´ve heard about him was that he urinated on a 14-year-old girl. Bleh
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

I agree. He showed ho incompetent he's in the qualifying stage. To lose 6:1 to Bolivia? You need to bee really bad to manage that. 3:1 loss at home to Brazil was also bad.

I didn't like that he took Veron as the only playmaker. Veron at his age without a sub is a very risky move. Especially when Lucho Gonzales, who was in great shape, left out. I'm not even talking about Zanetti and Cambiaso that would have been taken by every sane coach.

The coach of south africa C.A.Pareira coaches in a WC for 5th time , with 5 different teams! There is another coach who`s done this. Anyone remembers him ??

Also there are two players that played in 5 WCs. Who ?
