Kind of an ironic thread title because I've said all season long that we should get ride of the Pierce iso because it wasn't working and frankly painful to watch Paul miss game winning shot after game winning shot...

I was even imploring Doc not to have a Pierce iso at the end of game 3 :

Please everything BUT a Pierce iso... not feeling it. Pierce hasn't hit a game winning shot all season.

But now I have to redeem myself (or say it was a reverse jinx à la Bill Simmons, but it wasn't  ;D).

Frankly, it was awesome to see Piere hit that tough shot to win the game after seeing him fail repeatedly during the season... and to win such a pivotal game. Wow.

I like the Pierce ISO. It is one of the C's many weapons. I only get annoyed when that is all we run sometimes.

Man this team has so many weapons. The switch is flipped.

I *hate* the Pierce iso, except on nights like tonight. ;)

Pierce had a spring in his legs tonight that I haven't seen since early in the year.  When he's got that lift he gets much better at those midrange jumpers.

I think a lot of it is that he's finally healthy.  Yes, the Big Three are aging; however, Pierce is the youngest of them all.  His problems were mostly related to injuries, that apparently are now in the past.

Bring on Cleveland!

In the bad old days I used to love it. Is hard to see all our other weapons sitting idle knowing that they will not get the feed no matter how wide open.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but I was rewatching some of last night's game, and noticed this.

The Pierce iso got us last-second shots in THREE quarters last night.  Paul got 3 pointers with 6 secs left in the 1st, and 1 sec in the 3rd, before his buzzerbeater in the 4th.  So 8 points on Paul isos in the last 10 seconds of quarters.  No wonder Doc went to it again at the end.

Ah, interesting point.  Paul was definitely feeling it last night, to the point where I was confident with every shot he took.

I still can't believe that Miami didn't use their foul to give, though.  I'm not sure if that was coaching or execution, but it was a bit baffling.

Yes. Me too. We should just run a play, honestly.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

A major advantage is that he is able to see the clock very clearly. I'm fairly sure Miami had a timeout left so it was essential that the clock was run all the way down. It would be much tougher for Ray to see the clock running through screens or KG to see it with a post up.

Spoelstra also referenced that he had no clue who the ball was going to, since our crunch time possessions have been spread very evenly throughout the season.

I'm not quite ready to fall back in love with the Paul iso again. I'm more at the considering re-connecting after a break up stage. Very glad it was working yesterday but I still don't want to see it overused.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I love the PP iso a lot better than the Rondo iso. That is one of the worst iso's in the league. Nice shot Paul.

I hate the Pierce iso when it isn't the last play of a quarter. With 1:30 left, it has killed us repeatedly this season.

With 11 seconds left in a tie game and with Wade worn out, you go to the iso. It doesn't matter if we win in regulation, so long as we don't lose. It seemed unlikely that the Heat would have a chance in OT with Wade so worn out.

I think the one dimensional offense in the final 2 minutes is what most people hate.

Those who complain about an iso on the final play of a tied game are clueless. You don't risk the other team getting the ball with time on the clock. You need to make sure that overtime is the worst case scenario.

I think there are also a lot of people judge plays based on outcome instead of judging the wisdom of the play. This leads to incredible inconsistencies since they have no principles. Essentially, if we lose a game, whatever we did was the wrong thing to do for these people. This is one reason why we will get critics of every decision done after losses.

A good illustration of how silly that approach is would be a wager where someone has a shuffled complete deck of cards. You can either bet that the card to be flipped will be a heart, or a queen. The better choice will alway be the heart, even if a queen is flipped. To criticize a loser for picking hearts or to praise a winner for picking the queen is silly. Picking queen is just a stupid choice, even if it works.
