The guy is a columnist, not a beat writer or even a general reporter. His job is to write on whatever topic and pull in readers. If its elicits a strong reaction, even better, because it has people talking. In this instance, it's worked. We have a 3 page discussion on it. It's clearly got you talking.
I don't necessarily agree with everything he writes and shake my head with some of his findings. Like many columnists, I sometimes feel he drifts outside his "comfort zone" and stretches on items. I also think he can be thin-skinned, at times.
One thing to remember is that he's no longer the "Boston Sports Guy". He's the "Sports Guy". He's writing to a national audience now so I'm not exactly sure blind love for the Boston teams is something that he or his editors want being conveyed. If he wants to be critical of the Celtics, fine. He's just like any of us going on here and being critical of them. I know, for one, that I've been critical at times this season and being utterly fed up with this squad. It happens. I'm not really sure he's trying to come across as the "Superfan" anymore, to be honest with you. I don't really see the proclamations these days.
I'm not really gonna question his fanhood, though. This guy grew up going to Celtics games with his father. He gushes over the teams of the '80s and basically worships Bird. The guy clearly loves the Celtics. He, like any other fan, should be entitled to be critical of a team they love so much. Everyone takes being a fan, differently. Some have blind faith. Others tend to be pessimistic and others are somewhere in the middle.
