It's time for the Garden to step up

Guys, this is very important.

Someone create a facebook group.  Tell Jeff to put this on the front page.  Wake up Bill Simmons.

Our crowd is the only way we can win this series.  Period.  We have to win all three in Boston - I firmly believe that.

We need a crowd like we had in 02 and 03 (I agree those were better crowds than our 2008 crowd sans Game 6 Finals.)

We had all sorts of chants then, everything.  We need chants again.  Bill Simmons suggested chanting New-York-Knicks when LeBron was at the line.  That would be great.

But EVERYONE needs to make noise.  We have 3 days to put to something together.  It is up to us who will be attending games to make noise.  We have a huge impact on the game.

But someone, please, do something.  Get the word out, twitter, facebook, front page here, etc -- WE HAVE TO BE AS LOUD AS EVER, especially for the critical Game 3.

If we have a crowd like Cleveland did, we will lose.  We have to be louder than we were against Miami.  Louder than ever.

I love everything you just said but the only problem is how do we get the info to the people who are actually at the game.  We can post this all over but i feel like 60-70% of people at the games are only there just to be there and don't much follow the team when they're not at the game.  Hence, they won't be reading a Celtics blog or anything.

I completely agree that the crowd could take us to these victories.  Maybe we should create of rules (or guidelines) for proper fan behavior at a game.  My first rule would be "NEVER tell a fellow Celtics fan to sit down!  No one blocks your view at home.  If you dont' want to get up an cheer, your living room is a safer enviroment.

Way to sound like an elitist jerk.  Congrats on your front row seats.  You have no idea what I was referring too.  I've been to plenty of games, and big games, throughout my life.  I know when to stand and when to sit. When the Celts go on a run, come up with a big defensive play, run a great fast break, I'm going to get out of my seat.  YOU SHOULD TOO!  Don't tell me I look like an idiot because I think you look like a bigger idiot sitting on your hands at the biggest game of the year.  I'm glad we have guys like you all over the Garden ruining the atmoshpere.

There seems to be a lot of resentment of the upper class in this thread. You guys should realize that getting drunk and arguing with the guy behind you about your standing the whole time makes you look like an asshat. I cheer the whole game, and I'm loud, but I'm not blocking anyone's line of vision and then getting belligerent when they ask me to sit. You can cheer and be active and still be respectful to the people around you.

Why must you assume we are drunk.  I for one never drink at Celtics games and go only to watch the game and cheer.  I think you guys should realize that going to a live event and telling someone to sit down make you look worse.  If you are looking for a relaxed environment to sit and watch the game, the Garden, with 18,624 people is not the best place.

B) if you know when to stand and when to sit then you're fine, of course you jump up on a big play, I'm talking about the idiots who stand for the whole game and drunkenly and beligerantly yell obscenities with little kids around, that sort of thing, it's bad fandom

Its not about relaxing, it is about enjoying the game.  I think it is respectful to sit down if someone asks you to.  Just because they don't want to stand up the entire game, does not make them any less of a fan.

This is a professional basketball game.  You're gonna be surrounded by people from all walks of life, who believe it or not, are Celtics fans also.  They paid good money to go and cheer on the Celtics in whatever they want.  If they're not as vocal or rowdy, so what?  Doesn't mean they're not a real fan.  They shouldn't have to spend half the game yelling at someone to sit down because the person can't figure out the opportunities to sit & stand. 

Yes, there are instances when its fine to stand up and go nuts.  And about 98% of the people there realize those situations; after a big run, a big dunk, huge block, huge 3, etc...  Standing up just for the heck of it when Mo Williams is bringing up the ball and nothing else is going on just isn't one of those instances.

People show their passion in different ways.  Just because someone isn't screaming their lungs off and standing up when you want them to stand up, doesn't make them a "real fan".

well the crowd certainly didn't have much to step up about tonight... there was one sad guy a section over from me who tried really hard to stand all game and annoy everyone, but it was all for naught, because there really wasn't anything to stand up for...

Well it works both ways. People that stand and (god forbid) cheer for their team are paying the same amount of money as people that sit there and do nothing. So why can't they enjoy the game how they want to? My whole life the Celtics didn't do anything and for a couple seasons I have the opportunity to go nuts for my team when they are doing well. Whats wrong with that? It could be another 20 years for them to reach where they have been now and I'm not going to wait until then to get excited about a game. As long as those people arent doing anything illegal (which they aren't) then they can do whatever they want.

It's pretty pathetic when everytime I stand up I have to half look behind me to see if I'm upsetting anyone thats just sitting there. Not to mention the people that like to sit the whole game and just scream "down in front" when people stand up for half a second.

I know that people like to sit the whole game or don't like to stand much or whatever but I wish those people wouldn't come to the games. They might be the biggest fans in the world but they add nothing to the crowd, atmosphere and pretty much bring no advantage to having a home court.

By the way you are giving way way way too much credit to the home crowd saying that 98% know when to stand. I mean, probably 50% of people in my section won't stand for one second in a game.

This is just a thread about in general how bad our home crowd has been. Game 1 against Miami first game of the playoffs and I felt awkward cheering in there. I was abroad during last years playoffs, but wow what a difference between 08 regular season and playoff games compared to this year. Even with the help of the sound system in the garden people can't even muster a "defense chant"
