Good post SW and no offense taken, the point is that this type of crime is incredibly traumatic for the people that it happens too.  And just because the percent may not be as high, doesnt make it any less traumatic.  I remember sitting with my friend at planned parenthood waiting with him for 15 minutes of anxious terror waiting for the HIV test results to come back because he had no idea whether or not protection was used a few nights before.  I dont think that the fact that what happened to him only happens in 2% of cases would comfort him too much.

Are we talking about a friend who was raped or sexually assaulted by a woman and fearful of having HIV or someone who got ridiculously drunk, blacked out and may have engaged in unprotected sex?

There's a big difference here.  I feel remorseful of the first instance but the second instance is just reckless behavior that the person really has no one to blame but themselves, it takes two to tango (and trust me, I've involved myself in that stupidity before).  To me, there is a huge difference.

I'm sorry that something awful happened to your friend, I know exactly how that feels. I'm glad he evidently is healthy as you can be after such an event from what you seem to be saying.

I still don't get what your point was Rondo2287, no one ever claimed it "never" happened.

You mentioned the law being how it is, what do you mean by that?

As an RA at school we were briefed on the laws regarding sexual assault, now this may only be out in NY.  But i know if both parties are intoxicated the man cannot claim that he was raped because it is assumed that for something to happen the man has to initiate it. I assume this is to protect the female in any situation where she claims rape to make it so the guy can't say, "Well i was raped too."  But it still pushes alot of power away from men in this situation.  But since the statistics are how you say they are I am sure this is done to protect the majority at the risk of weakening the rights of the minority.

Also on ESPN they just reported he will likely face between a 2-4 game suspension.  I find that astonishingly low.

Me too.

I went to school in Pittsburgh right when Big Ben came into the league. I watched him beat the undefeated Pats in person. I won't be rooting for them anymore.

Pats still managed to get the last laugh that season on the Steelers.   ;)

That makes me sick. What Rapistburger did was way worse than what Michael Vick did.

the distinction is and always will be that Ben wasnt charged and Vick was.

So, reports are that Roethlisberger is looking at a 4 to 6 game suspension: Link.  If that's the case, I say good.  I wish all four of the major sports had a major disciplinarian in as commissioner.  Punishment without proof of guilt may not meet a criminal standard, but I'm 100% on board with commissioners punishing players who give their respective sports a black eye.

I did not see whether this will be a suspension without pay. I would hope so.

I also see that the suspension "will contain conditions that will allow it to be reduced based on Roethlisberger's behavior and compliance with clinical evaluators."

I can't see BR being truly contrite to merit such a reduced suspension. I hope the clinical evaluators are tough to fool, and put BR through his paces.

I think all NFL league suspensions are without pay, so he'll take a hefty hit here.  Hopefully, whatever settlement he's paying the woman is a hefty amount, too.  If he's guilty, I'd obviously prefer him to be in jail, but the hit to his reputation and wallet are at least some sort of punishment.  (I've got to think that more and more sponsors will drop him, too.)

good move by the NFL.

6 games, can be reduced to 4, he loses about 3 million if he sits the full 6 games.

it raises a scary precedent about false accusations (say, a week before the superbowl if someone wanted to try and get a player to potentially be suspended), but I am fine dealing with future situations in the future, Ben deserved this.
