Our team defense was built around KG as the quick 4: it's not working anymore. KG can still rebound, shoot, pass and defend the post against non-Shaqs, he just can't hedge and recover on quick, slashing jumpshooting 4s (of which there is an amazing variety nowadays) anymore.
That means adding a real 4 to the team instead of slogging forward with the a trio of slow, unathletic 5s as KG-complements.
If you switch Garnett to the five, which of the following types of power forwards would you like to see Boston try to go forward with:
(1) A prototypical power forward like Scola. Good body. Rebounds. Solid all-round game.
(2) A PF/C combo with good athleticism and mobility like Varejao. Someone who can defend top post scorers when necessary but otherwise will defend the four.
(3) An athletic defensive minded power forward like a Ty Thomas
(4) A combo forward like a Jeff Green or Thaddeus Young or who can stretch out the offense and create amazing spacing for Rondo to work with + force opposing team's centers to have to defend Garnett. Not just switch onto an offensively limited power forward and allow the quicker defender to take KG.
I'm undecided on which type of a power forward would be the ideal fit for Garnett at this point.
