no, not Sheed but Nate.........Sheed could and should be, but he isn't and neither is Marquis who also has been a disappointment.

Nate being on the floor along with TA/Marquis, Finley does so many things for this team:

1.He spells Rondo for the brief times he is off the court.
2.His presence and scoring ability allow both Ray and PP to not have to be on the court so the second unit has some shooting/scoring punch to go along with Finley, so in a way, even though they play different positions, he spells them too.
3.His ability to shoot and handle makes him a good compliment to the slasher TA/Marquis and the spot up Finley.
4.His energy and competitiveness give that 2nd unit the spark and fire they often lack, especially later in the 3rd when those guys are in there and when we often (like against the Kings last night)don't bring it and let the other team back into the game.

Who do you guys think is our most important bench player?

Nate seems to make the biggest impact at this point.  I still like what TA brings, but unfortunatley he has fallen down the depth chain.

Despite the hatred tossed at him by many here, I still think that Rasheed is our most important bench player.

He can create matchup headaches.  Still has offensive skills and, like it or not, provides veteran/championship leadership.

I think his play is key to us in the playoffs and I have an inclination he'll come up big once or twice.

I'll have to go with the mustache & hat wearing guy with a gray suit on a green background with a yellow border on this one.

Rasheed is a tad slow and shooting quite a few too many threes. However, he brings a low-post presence that is still hard to match, along with some solid defense.

I know people will not agree on that last one, as people seem to think him slow on D, but I really think that most of the time he's been pretty darn good for us on the defensive end. If anyone has the right to claim intangibles, other than Scal (who has truly become 'cannon fodder') - it's 'Sheed.

No its Marquis. And it will prove this in the playoffs. Its going to be hard getting Nate minutes when Rondo will be playing 40+ minutes a night. Marquis is the guy that has to bring his A game because he can be a big factor giving Pierce or Allen rests. Lately he has dropped in play but there was a stretch there when he came back that he was playing some really great basketball. He is going to be a big factor off the bench in the playoffs.

6th man - Probably Sheed to give Perk or KG the first rest.
7th - Daniels
8th - Rob
9th - Finley
10th - Baby
11th - T.A.
12th Sheldon

It will be interesting to see how Doc divies up his playoff minutes.

I think you are correct, inside out game is very important to our team's outside shooters and drivers.  I had the same question previously about who everyone thought was our best player off the bench to that point of the year.  Mainly because I feel overall our bench has been inconsistant.  TA is playing really well now, marquis isn't playing much and when he was it wasn't anywhere as well as the beginning of season.  I think come playoffs it will be matchups, think 1 very good game for nate or finley or ta but mainly it will be marquis if he can return to beginning of season form and 'sheed.  If sheed doesn't improve for playoffs then danny needs to move him.  He has kinda of gotten a "he's old and pacing himself" excuse for awhile now.  He is our best low post scorer.  He needs to hustle up and down the court.  I liked it last night when 2 times in a row rondo "forced" him to get out on break for alley oops.  First one was a oops next went well.

If Sheed never took another 3 this season and focused all his effort on blocking out, rebounding, and posting up, he'd be our most important bench player easily.

Since he rarely does any of those things, he isn't, regardless of the matchup issue he causes.  The most we can hope to get out of Sheed these days is blocks and steals.  That's nice, but not really what you'd hope for from a MLE acquisition.  Oh well.

It seems like the whole team cranked up its energy...except Rasheed.  There was a quote in SI from an opposing scout who says Rasheed still hasn't bothered to get in shape and this is demonstrated by his 33% field goal percentage in 2nd halfs.

As I said in the OP, Sheed could be and should be, and very well may be, however, Nate brings it every night, and his presence yesterday was sorely missed by the second unit against the Kings. If Sheed missed a few games, I don't think his loss would have the negative impact and effect on as many players as Nate's would. That's why I think Nate is the most important, while Sheed could and should be.

I think it's Nate because we don't have another plan behind Nate.

If Sheed falters there is still Baby and Sheldon as backup plans.

If Quis falters, Tony Allen and Scal are there.

If Nate falters, who else to fall back on?

Good question. I was against Finley, but he does allow Sheed to play in the post w/ him and Nate spotting up. BBD has been picking up on the rebounding and still hustles. Tony is not taking stupid shots and turning over. And Quis will be important against Kobe and Bron. So not sure the bench is the strongest but probably the most versatile bench in league. Also nice not to have to mention Scal; but like Shelden's play of late as well.

We really don't want Scal playing the three.
