Big Baby is going to be a much better player with the first unit, while KG will probably be equally effective with the second unit.
I don't think this is the case.

KG's problems this year have largely been on the offensive end. He can no longer finish as well to get so many easy buckets, meanwhile his ability to create his own shot has clearly has diminished.

Putting him with the second unit will only highlight these same issues.

Baby is one of my favorites, but start him over KG?  Um, no.

I think KG's issues on the offensive end have been dissipating.  He is never going to be the old KG, but he is still very capable of scoring with or without Rondo feeding him the ball.  I still have a lot more confidence in KG getting his own shot than BBD.  Besides, I can imagine making KG come off the bench is like letting out a caged animal - his energy would be unparalleled.

Actually, after seeing Finley play, I feel much more confident in our bench...he seems to have a good combo of experience, hustle AND skill...I also like the addition of Nate, and Marquis was already one of my favorites.  But Davis over KG?  Arrrrgggggghhhhh

As I said, earlier, it will never happen, but there are some positives to the situation.  Sorry to anger you... :o

I don't think it's a completely outlandish idea.  Those that understand Davis' game can sympathize but, I think at least for myself with regard to KG, his energy isn't really needed with the 2nd team and losing Davis' scoring would diminish the 2nd team.  Maybe a replacement for Perk since he's a black hole on offense who winds ups and and has average hands.  But again we need his defense so I say no changes and hope for the best.

TP by the way for forward thinking.

I am not angry...I was making a feeble attempt at being funny and Redz was teasing me.   I should have put a smiley so you would have known that.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
professional sports is as much about (if not more so) managing egos as they are about talent.  anyone who thinks that KG taking a "demotion" would have a positive impact on a team already questioning their ability is crazy at best...  this team is already screwed up in the head as it is...

Actually, I did bring up the possibly a couple weeks ago on another site (I think maybe it was CSL) of bringing KG off the bench.  KG was still struggling at the time.  I thought maybe Williams to start.  KG would still be able to log his minutes, and finish the game while keeping his minutes to more manageable numbers.  I still think we will win if one of our starters (not necessarily KG...whoever is still struggling with conditioning) comes off the bench.  I don't want to face the possibility that any one of the starters may not be able to play in the playoffs, so I will assume they all will until and unless someone actually doesn't dress...

If you want to replace KG with someone on the bench, it has to be Scali.

He has the best winning % when he starts for KG.

Then, we can have TA start for Ray
Daniels start for Pierce

If we really think about it we may win this year just fighting with humor.  Add a few of Edgar's elephant jokes and the other teams will be laughing too hard to score!

I always like throwing a different look at another team....and my gut reaction is that the Celtics would be no worse starting Baby with KG off the bench.....it might  not improve things, either (but we don't know this).  The only way it would hurt the team is if Garnett hated the idea and Doc did it anyway....that could suck.

Reasons to support:

--A different look for the other team to deal with, and a different emotional tone at the beginning of the game, likely to cause/create a let down in the other team via underestimating Baby in general and in terms of the energy he can bring.  Teams sometimes rely on the drama  and mojo of of our best players to bring their own drama/intensity to the game.  I love KG's intensity, but don't think that some of it doesn't come back at us in the form of "blowback."

--KG doing great things off the bench and still being in there at the end of games.

--Boosts Glen's confidence...he plays with a new spark of happiness.

--Kg remains leader of the team

--Glen and Perk together, KG and Sheed together.

--Lull the other team at the beginning and hammer them later on

--it represents a more relaxed approach to the game in general (an air of:  we are good enough to tinker and not have nervous breakdowns).  Sometimes a club needs to get over itself, be less sensitive, more light-hearted.  I can't stand when teams think in terms of glory or doom, with nothing in between.  Starting Glen might not improve things, but I guarantee it carries no doom component.

Reasons not to do it:

--KG might not like the idea.  That makes it a no go...
