I always like throwing a different look at another team....and my gut reaction is that the Celtics would be no worse starting Baby with KG off the bench.....it might not improve things, either (but we don't know this). The only way it would hurt the team is if Garnett hated the idea and Doc did it anyway....that could suck.
Reasons to support:
--A different look for the other team to deal with, and a different emotional tone at the beginning of the game, likely to cause/create a let down in the other team via underestimating Baby in general and in terms of the energy he can bring. Teams sometimes rely on the drama and mojo of of our best players to bring their own drama/intensity to the game. I love KG's intensity, but don't think that some of it doesn't come back at us in the form of "blowback."
--KG doing great things off the bench and still being in there at the end of games.
--Boosts Glen's confidence...he plays with a new spark of happiness.
--Kg remains leader of the team
--Glen and Perk together, KG and Sheed together.
--Lull the other team at the beginning and hammer them later on
--it represents a more relaxed approach to the game in general (an air of: we are good enough to tinker and not have nervous breakdowns). Sometimes a club needs to get over itself, be less sensitive, more light-hearted. I can't stand when teams think in terms of glory or doom, with nothing in between. Starting Glen might not improve things, but I guarantee it carries no doom component.
Reasons not to do it:
--KG might not like the idea. That makes it a no go...
