Observing this team I've come to a conclusion it's best for Paul Pierce to come off the bench and Marquis Daniels to start. My reasons are not based on who is better or depleting, but who's a better fit for what unit.

Pierce = scorer/shooter/post player/leader etc... Pierce does not need a Rondo type of point guard to play alongside with. The Rondo type hurts Pierces game because he poses no threat offensively so a Pierce whom tries to do work finds it too difficult (being double teamed, or opposers cheating his space). Pierce needs a Nate type of point to play alongside. Nate as we all mo is a offensive jugganaught. His presence free's Pierce to perform @ the highest level, because team's wouldn't dare leave Nate to go double him. Vice-Versa Pierce helps Nate also by freeing his offensive space. Imagine a offensive line of Nate, Michael, Pierce, Glen and Rasheed! There isn't a player in that line up that teams will risk doubling off of. Doc Rivers Make This Happen!!!

Marquis = Ball-Handler/Lenghty/Inside scorer/Finisher/Slasher... Marquis is a better fit for Rondo. Nate Robinson is not a distributor but can when forced to. Rondo provisionist skill intertwine's with the likes of Daniels and Ray Allen's (A Slasher & A Shooter). Marquis presence will help
Ray a whole lot because, the perimeter will now be a lil bit more free to roam around, Ray Allen will get more shot attempts with the distribution skills of now Marquis, Rondo and Garnett (whom are all pass 1st players). A line up of Rondo, Ray, Marquis, Garnett and Perkins will be a problem for opponents defensively reEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing in offensive runs.

To sum it up....

Unit #1 will now be a Denfensive unit (the unit Doc has been looking for).
Unit #2 will now be a offensive unit (the unit Doc has been craving for).

GET ER' DONE!!!

The way Marquis has played the last two-plus weeks, I am not so sure I want to even see him on the floor. It looks like has has caught the Bored Bug that has been going around the team.

First of all, this is the worst idea by man in the history of civilization.  ;D (I joke off course) Second, I'd start TA over Marquis any day of the week. Quis and his ZERO impact can sit next to Doc.

as much as you want this to happen...no chance in hell this would ever fall through, sorry.

Pierce needs to start, the problem is this whole "Swap Five" maneuver Doc pulls at the beginning of the 2nd and 4th quarters. Kills the offense, all it leads to is Rasheed jacking, Baby trying to put it back up, tony To's, marquis doing his usual nothing, and Nate occasionally catching fire.

Need to leave Ray or Pierce out there and let Quis or Finley sit and come in later for (either PP or Ray) when the starters are back out there. I would like to see a Rondo, Ray, Finley, Baby, KG lineup. Hustle and heart out there. Not saying pierce doesn't hustle at all btw, just sit him here because he should play at the beginning of the 2nd with the bench.

The Swap Five thing is something I do in NBA 2k10 when I put my subs in, just for the sake of ease and less time than subbing 1 at a time. Pull the starters let them juice up on the bench fatigue wise and get back in there. Does Doc think this is a videogame?

I like this idea (tho am not too sure about Quis and how he has been playing lately); and it's not because of today's loss, but mostly because we need a consistent shooter to come off the bench.

I don't really mind either Ray or Pierce being our 6th man, but going by what you said Pierce looks more apt for being with the 2nd unit.

Besides like it has been said before....It's not about the 5 who start the game...but the 5 who end the game.

I'm not sure if it's boredom, but I agree.  Quis is averaging 4 pts on 34% shooting, 0.9 boards and 1 assist (to 1.1 tos) in 20 mpg in March.  If he keeps that up, he shouldn't stay in the rotation.

Way, way wrong. Sorry, but you don't bench your Captain ... bad, bad idea, both energy-wise and for the emotional health of the team ... it would do irreparable damage to his psyche and the team's ... this is the guy that KG looks up to for leadership, let alone the rest of the team! In addition, Pierce scored 18 points today with 3 rebounds and 4 assists ... Quis scored zero with 1 rebound and no assists.

Yes lets not start our All-Star, Hall Of Fame best player! That sounds like a brillant idea!! Maybe the Lakers should bring Kobe off the bench too, when there bench is playing well!

Rtpas11, you really come up with some radical, out there ideas and this, like many of your others is just not good

Daniels has been just miserable since coming back

He's been a revolving door on defense and just disjointed and wandering and bad on offense

Yet you want to take the guy who is going to have his number retired in a few years, who is the Captain of this team, and bench him in favor of Daniels who has been playing like a scrub?

Horrible idea!!

Almost as bad as your idea to get Allen Iverson on this team.

Pierce looked horrible today. No spring and very little energy; however Daniels was no better. The fact that they had Rondo trying to guard Lebron tells you there is a problem and Michael Finely is not the answer.

Just stop playing all reserve players second units.

Then there is no need for Pierce to go to the bench.

Marquis isn't that good.

Pretty much. I wish Tony would actually play. He's athletic and a good defender. Tony and Finley seems like a decent 2-3 for the bench on paper, at least.

If Marquis keeps playing like he has recently then I too would like to see TA take his minutes.

I think Doc believes that Rondo/Perk are still most effective as role players playing off the big 3 and the big 3, esp. KG, are too old/fragile to maximize Rondo/Perk and still chip in to help out the bench.

So Doc doesn't want to waste Rondo/Perk in ineffective minutes with bench players (less so the case for Rondo this year) and he doesn't want to exhaust his Big 3 trying keep everybody afloat.

So he takes all of his medicine at once with the 5-man bench, and gets it out of the way, so he can keep his favorite line-up rested and intact.
