He was so inconsistent... some times he got 14pts, 9reb, 10ast... sometimes 8pts, 12reb 14ast... sometimes 29pts, 7ast, 8reb.... it really drove me insane.

all 3 are great boxscores....isnt that the mark of a great player, he can still succeed even when shots arent falling

I sense massive sarcasm from xmuscularghandix

ding ding ding  ;)

After Rondo signed his new contract, he wasn't playing up to his normal level.

That's why Rondo seemed "average" to the negative ninnies.

When Rondo plays his game he can be the best basketball player on the court.

This thread was started in March. I remember laughing when I saw it back then. I looked through the archives to find it to poke some friendly fun at Change. We have all stated opinions and looked a bit stupid months later. It's all in fun. Just like this topic:

Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Rondo is certainly far better than "average" but do we really think he is the best in the league?  I like his attitude, focus, grittiness, all those intangible things.  He doesn't do dances after dunks or do any show-boating at all he is all business and I love that.  He still can't shoot well enough though to be the best point gaurd in the league.  And the steal (I guess it counts as a steal) is now an all time highlight.  As well as the Celtics are playing, I feel there are a few PG's in the league who would make the Celtics even better.  Chris Paul and Deron Williams for sure and Westbrook is right there too.  Rondo I guess is in my top 5 conversation for sure but that is as high as I can go until he gets a more reliable shot.

So players that can't pass, rebound, defend or score close to the basket can be better than Rondo simply because they have a better outside shot? Rondo can dominate games against the best teams in the league on a regular basis but he's no better than "in the conversation for top 5 pgs" because of his outside shooting?

I'm not saying he's undoubtedly the best pg in the league but I'd say he's pretty much put to rest any talk that his jumpshot limits his value or effectiveness.
I am not sure who you are refering to when you say players who

Quote
can't pass, rebound, defend or score close to the basket
but I try to balance all aspects of a player when I offer an opinion.  I think one aspect of Rondo that is not fully considered is the impact that his man being able to sag off has on the overall team offense.  Rondo is awesome based on his quickness and court vision/BBIQ (what ever you want to call it) but his shooting is a big hole in his game.  I further think that all players (even Chris Paul) have some weaknesses but of these weaknesses, poor shooting is one that have the best chance to improve.  For example players without vision generally don't learn court vision after a few years but players who can't shoot sometimes do develop a serviceable shot.

Sorry, I meant to type "players that can't pass, rebound, defend or score close to the basket *as well as Rondo* can be better than Rondo simply because they have a better outside shot?". Teams sometimes sag off of Rondo when he doesn't have the ball but they do the same thing with a lot of players. It's another thing people pay attention to when it happens to Rondo and don't notice when it happens to others.

Not that I'm comparing the two, but when we played the Lakers in the mid-80s our guards would sag off of Magic when he didn't have the ball and wasn't near the basket. He spent much of his career a below average  outside shooter but I don't think it kept him from being a top 5 pg.

This thread was made on March 10th, the night we got blown out at home against Memphis. Ironically Rondo put up 17pts 8ast and was the only player that looked like he cared.

This has nothing to do with the beginning of the year. This is an overreaction to a bad home loss.

I bet this "Change" character is feeling pretty dumb right about now.  Rondo is the best point guard in the league.

And BBD is 6th man of the year.

Slight sarcasm there...sorry.

Sometimes it isn't quite fair to exhume old threads to mock them or the posters, particularly months later when the player has developed (as Rondo's shot has) and the team has developed (as the C's now give Rondo more freedom) and/or the team/player (or both) is/are (rather suddenly) giving an exponentially higher effort.

And let's be honest, it is our expectation that our team/players will play better and harder now than they did in March, right?
Disagree completely. Rondo had already shown last year that he was above average. He made the ASG before this thread.

There are posters who stubbornly hold on to opinions though the evidence contradicts it. They wait in the bushed for anything that can be used to push their view. For example, if they think player A is overrated, they come out of the wood work when player A has 2 bad games in a row.

Those types should not be allowed to get away with it by allowing their threads to fade away. Bring the threads back out and point out their folly.

Reviving this thread is like any posters worst nightmare.

I hope Change stays far away from this thread, it won't do anyone any good if he doesn't.

People make bold statements, sometimes they are completely right, completely wrong, or somewhere in the vast space in between.  Without those statements and predictions nobody would have fun discussing the celtics in this place.

This season more than most we all had our patience tested, even those who believed they could win it all.  And rightfully so, we went from a big high from the great start to the season, to a deep low from the lackadaisical play and chemistry problems that plagued the team the second half of the season, to another great high in these playoffs.

Anybody who said they expected this season to play out exactly as it has would be lying.
