I've heard this dumb cliche over and over here. So where are they on the Cs? Could the Cs have Salmons? Could the Cs have Delfino? Then why don't they?

Another lead lost while guys look at each other dumbfounded on the offensive end....

You have to be 30+ years old to be a part of Celtics rotation.  ;D

Because they are not utilized correctly. Pierce needs to post up deep with Rondo feeding him the ball. Finley needs to back up Pierce and get some minutes.

Finley got minutes over TA, but he didn't get the ball a lot. I think the Bucks defense hounded him and Ray.

Finley played 7 minutes and had 5 points on 3 shots. He got just as many shots as Ray in 7 minutes. I don't know if he was exactly hounded

Yes, Boston could have had Salmons. They just didn't make an offer.

Yes, Boston could have gotten Carlos Delfino but they spent their MLE on Sheed instead + didn't have enough trade assets remaining to make Toronto an offer.

Yes, Boston could have signed Keith Bogans or Ime Udoka or several other wings to a minimum contract to shore up their wing depth but they showed no interest in bringing in another wing player with TA/Walker/Giddens already on the books.

Yes, Boston could have easily acquired better help on the wings. The reason they didn't was a lack of interest from Danny Ainge.

We used to have a team that moved the ball, working the defense with passing, until the ball magically found someone wide open for an easy hoop.

But that was way back before Rondo was an all-star.  Now, he can pound the crap out of the ball until HE finds an open guy, then pass FOR AN ASSIST/stat.  Notice how many fewer passes we have per possession, compared to before Rondo was thought to be so great?  We used to run a team offense based on unselfishness, but now we run the offense through Rondo, since he's so great and everything.

But let's pretend that, all of a sudden, Shuttlesworth and Paul Pierce can't score.  That MUST be the problem.

Delfino signed with the Bucks this summer. He would have been a great addition still, but has worked his way into Skiles' rotation.

Salmons would probably have been free for us for expirings, but don't know why an offer wasn't made

As for the original OP, QUALITY SFs aren't a dime a dozen.
There are more than plenty of SFs, but most of them are either undersized PFs that can't score, or oversized SGs that can't score. Gelabale, Udoka, maybe even Darius MIles.
I still feel Finley was a greater pickup because we don't necessarily needed a Pierce backup, but more of a SG/SF that could score. Pop in Finley next to NateRob, and put Tony or Daniels at the 3, and you got a perfect offensive combo.

The problem with this game was the starting unit. Ray touched the ball once in the first half was what I remember. Pierce didn't get started till late in 2nd quarter. Let this team mesh and I can see us still making a strong run for the money.
And remember, Doc did say that with little practice time left, he would have to use games like these as time for Finely and others to work their ways into the scheme.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Another lead lost while guys look at each other dumbfounded on the offensive end....

If we had Delfino, people would be complaining about how underwhelming he is. If we had Salmons, people would complain he is overpriced.

Everyone looks good if you only pay attention to their good games.

Delfino's been playing pretty darn well for a lot of the season

Have to agree with Pos here (TP) ... DelFino is averaging 10.6 PPG, 5.3 RB/P, 2.6 APG, and has an efficiency rating of 12.32 ... pretty consistently positive, and at a $3.5M price tag. (Salmons: 13.8 PPG, 3.4 RB/G, 2.6 APG, Eff +12.79 at $6,429,150.00 ... Bogut: 16 PPG, 10.3 RB/G, 1.9 APG, Eff +21.80 at $10M). Carlos is a good buy at $3.5M, and not what I would call "underwhelming" production. (Man, I'd love to have a guy like Bogut!) ;)

So your arguement againt that fact that we literally can't get buckets in the 4th -- that we essentially have no scorers other than a player whose range is about 8-10 feet -- is that no matter who we have we'd complain about it? hmmmm

Pierce's game has fallen off in a scary way. He looks 46 years old out there. He's dribbling far too much, and wildly / loosely at that. Too many poor fadeaways and a lack of finishing at the rim on the rarity he gets there. Can who ever kidnapped the real PP please return him at your earliest convenience?

A team that can't rebound has no business being as ugly as this team is offensively. Zero post game. Zero movement other than for Ray. Ugly.

It seems to come down to this: Unless Ray is hot, we're almost certain to lose against 500 or better teams. Ladies & Gentlemen -- your 2010 Boston Celtics.

I think that the priority at the time was to get a better ballhandler/defender than a shooter. Daniels fit the bill.
