Just lost all patience with the Red Sox this year...

Pap blew it again! What happened to him he used to be a beast but now I don't know. Thoughts?

Yeah ... I'm at a loss as to Pap ... he's lost that intimidation factor ... he was such a monster, and consistently one of those players you could count on to dominate, now I cross my fingers whenever he comes in. I hope it's temporary, cuz he's young enough to still have a great extended career. I think he'll get beyond it, but with pitchers it's such an elusive thing. Here's hoping.

I hope they don't offer him arbitration! Is this an option? They can do a lot better for ten million dollars and they have enough crap money locked up in Drew and Cameron next year...

they have Bard ready to take over. Send Pap and his ego packing, he blew it in the playoffs last year, and this year he has done more of the same.

More disappointing and more to blame (I think)than Papelbon's decline was that Scott "How is this guy only 34?" Atchinson was the third best pitcher out of the pen this year. The trio of Oki/MDC/and RR was just horrible as a group. Richardson has not impressed and Doubront's hurt now. This team needs to bring Paps back more than ever and seeing how it's strictly a one year commitment, I can't see why they wouldn't.

Maybe I'm crazy but I'm actually looking forward to seeing Kalish, Reddick, Anderson, and Navarro this September. It's not the ideal situation but being out of the race actually has some upside to it.

Well, looks like we may not be completely out of it.  The way the Yankees are playing, plus them having another series with the rays, as well as us having 6 games left with them.  We may have a chance to sneak in!

Even then they probably could only lose a a single game in the rest of their schedule.

As great a story as it would be for the Sox to miraculously make the postseason here, I just can't get over the fact that they simply don't deserve it.  Maybe its just that I have chosen to watch them at the wrong times, but it feels like they are constantly giving away opportunities that have been handed to them.  I really think its just time to put this season to rest.

Saltalamacchia is a very iffy acquisition, in my opinion ... he's very talented, but really hasn't proven himself in a "night-after-night" kind of performance at this high level. It would be nice if he turned into another Pedroia-like surprise, but if he's going to be the starter, I hope they at least keep Veritek here to assume a back-up mentor role. With 'Tek helping him along, I'd feel much better about his future at the Red Sox.

The way I see it, they offered both V-mart and Beltre Arbitration, I think they are both gone.  If they Yankees sign Cliff Lee it really doesn't matter who is in our lineup, we are toast. 

So when the yankees get lee, I think it makes sense to save our money for a couple of years, take our 5 first round picks from other teams signing v-mart and Beltre and build up our system. 

Then in a couple of years, cliff and CC will be old and not as good and we will be able to beat them with our crop of young contract controlled players and will also be in a strong position to sign free agents or trade those young players for stars.

The Sox have a great system in place IMO. They wont commit to older players for alot of years, but they do target guys they like and make sure they get them. They are not always right, but still it is a better approach than throwing money at every FA out there IMO.

At the same time they develop their prospects and give them a shot at the big league level. They have proven they can do both. Why go small market when they have the means to go get players they need. The Boston Red Sox cannot and will not sit on money. No one in Boston will accept major holes in a lineup with the hope that 5 draft picks will turn into the next great offensive team.

With VMart gone, I dont think they have to sign Beltre. What i do think is they need to replace 2 bats in their lineup. Hopefully they can get Carl Crawford, and swing a deal for Adrian Gonzales.

This is obviously a dream scenario but they have both the funds and the prospects to get both deals done.
