Look's like Peppers is finalizing a 6 year deal with the Bears

Big Bear day
Lots of money spent, we'll see if it ends up with a trip to the playoffs.

Those are some low expectations for that kinda money.
The biggest issue facing the Bears last year was their poor offensive line play. So far that hasn't been addressed, if that issue isn't corrected then no matter how Peppers/Taylor/etc. perform they still won't go far.

As for expectations, I think improving 4 or 5 games is a pretty big turn around. That's what it will take to make the playoffs. Once you're in the playoffs its all about how well you play at the end, WC SB appearances and wins have all happened recently.

I know that I'm happy to see the wallet being opened.  All I can ask for as a fan is that the team attempts to improve, and so far, that's what the Bears are doing.

If Lovie can keep Peppers motivated, this could be a huge signing.

I think theres a lot of jobs on the line in chicago this year, i dont think theyre done spending money.

Wow - my Redskins are cleaning house..released 10 vets recently...it's all good as long as it produces wins, I suppose.
which vets?

off the top of my head Antoine Randle El, Rock Cartwright, Randy Thomas, Todd Collins, Ladell Betts, Cornelious Griffin.......I think those are the most notable names, I cant remember the other 4.

I must say, as a Redskin fan, it was nice to wake up this morning to not see that we had paid 50 million dollars more than any other team was offering for Julius Peppers.....or any other  player, the non news was great.  This team might be starting to get smart.

Derrick Mason has has missed 3 games in the last 10 years and averages 82 receptions and 1050 yards per season over those 10 years

Last year he had 73 receptions and 1028 yards

He's a great guy to have as a possession receiver and would be a bargain

I don't care how old he is he plays smart and tough and young

Someone could have said very similar stats about marvin harrison two years ago. Then he had one injury and was out of the league. In fact, he actually had much better ten year averages then mason. Find the receivers that have had productive years over the past ten years at age 37. Is possible he could have another good year, yeah but based on history and just common sense its not smart to commit a lot of money or hope to a 36 year old wide receiver. I would much rather have a guy that is closer to 30 or even under.
I said he would be a bargain

he won't cost a lot at all and would be a one year deal

I say develop Brandon Tate and Julius Edelman, sign Mason and draft Golden Tate

Moss, Aiken, Tate, Tate, Mason, Edelman, Welker

That's a great set of receivers IMO
Pick 2 Knicks

SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson

Tate twice and Aiken ? Those guys have done nothing in the nfl and Welker is out at least half the season. Thats not a great group of receivers. It is also failing to address the probable loss of a pass catching tight end. How does that lineup compare to Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Heather Miller? Or Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and Collie and Garcon with another year under their belt? Combined with our less then impressive ground game, we have a lot to be desired on offense.

Two Patriots-related moves

Report: Bodden deal finally done
Posted by Mike Florio on March 9, 2010 4:00 PM ET
Reports emerged on Monday that cornerback Leigh Bodden had re-signed with the Patriots.

Not so fast, his agent said.

Today, Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that the deal is done -- and La Canfora has the numbers.

Per La Canfora, it's a five-year, $28.5 million contract, with $10 million guaranteed.

Bodden signed a one-year deal with the Pats in 2009, after being cut by the Lions.  The Patriots had offered a multi-year contract at the time, but Bodden opted to do a shorter deal and to hit the market in the uncapped year.

Bodden visited the Texans before opting to remain with the Patriots.

Green is going to Denver
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 9, 2010 3:14 PM ET
The New England to Denver pipeline is alive and well.

The Broncos announced Tuesday they signed defensive end Jarvis Green, who played the first eight years of his career with the Patriots.  New England was hoping to keep him.

Green won't post splashy stats (he has three sacks the last two years), but he's a rock solid rotation end in a 3-4 defense.  The Broncos need competent warm bodies, and they've now added Justin Bannan and Green.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports Green will earn $7.5 million in the first two years of a four-year contract.  The total value of the deal can reach $20 million.

Green will mostly play on passing downs, but this signing makes it less likely the Broncos pick up Dwan Edwards.

4 years $20 million $7.5 million guaranteed is way too much money for Jarvis Green

Glad the Pats saw that those numbers were as ridiculous as they sound and didn't resign him

Faulk resigns with Pats.

Kevin Faulk agrees to return to Patriots
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 10, 2010 4:41 PM ET
One by one, the Patriots continue to bring their own players back into the fold.

The Patriots agreed to terms with running back Kevin Faulk Wedensday, the fifth player to re-up with the team in the last week.  Comcast Sports New England says it's a one-year deal.

Faulk has played all eleven of his seasons in New England.  He didn't much attention from any Belichick disciples, but there was never a sense he could possibly leave.

Faulk remains a valuable third-down back, averaging more than five yards per carry and eight yards per catch last season.

LT on the way to Minn! AP and LT, need I say more?

Hope they can get a deal done.

Of course it won't matter who's at RB if they don't do a better job blocking this year.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

I cant believe the Pats passed on Jones.

I think the Pats are pretty happy with their RB by committee approach, and really wanted Faulk back.  I could see the Pats drafting a RB with the 2nd rounder if it was a RB that could help in the kick return department (crossing fingers for Dexter McCuster).

How would you rank the Patriots needs at this point?
Assuming Watson doesn't come back,
it looks like TE and WR are top of the list....
