Been away for a couple days (busy). I think Finley's a good signing. The nice thing is that he pretty much fits exactly what the bench needed: a larger swingman who can hit the 3. That could be useful, especially since Marquis is so skinny and TA is so short (he's only 6-4).
Here's my prediction though: I think Finley may see as much, if not more, time at the backup 4 spot than the backup 3. Think about it, there's probably not even enough minutes come playoff time for anyone beyond Nate and Marquis at the 1-3 spots in the playoffs. Add to that the fact that our two biggest rivals (Orlando and Cleveland) have perimeter oriented 3s in Lewis and Jamison. In many ways, Finley is much more fit to guard them than BBD, especially when you consider that Finley (despite listed heights) may actually be taller BBD.
I think Pierce is a little bigger, and might fit the role of guarding smaller 4's better. I haven't seen it too much though.
Oh man I do miss the 2008 version of Posey. He was perfect in that role.
That might work too. And playing Pierce at the 4 would free up minutes for Finley at the 3. So it'd still end up being a Finley/BBD switch.
While I do like BBD to some extent, unless we're actually going to let him post up, there isn't a whole lot of a point of having him out there. He doesn't block shots, he doesn't rebound particularly well, and while he does have an OK 18 footer, if we're looking for shooting, we're probably better off going small. And with so many finesse 4s out there, in many ways we may be better with a bigger 3 like Pierce or Finley backing up the KG than BBD.
