CSNNE.com reporting that the C's are closing in on a deal with Michael Finley http://tinyurl.com/y9evnye

"League sources tell CSNNE.com that the Celtics are close to reaching a deal with recently waived veteran swing man Michael Finley.

The 36-year-old Finley cleared waivers on Wednesday night, and while there are many suitors vying for his services, he apparently feels that the Celtics are the best fit.

Injuries have limited the two-time All-Star to only 25 games so far this season -- all with San Antonio. He's averaging 3.7 points and 15.8 minutes a night, and shooting a career worst 31.7 percent from three point-range.

His arrival would add more depth to the Celtics bench and give them another quality veteran presence in the locker room.

We'll have more on this story shortly."

Its an ok pick up I guess? I don't see how he is going to help much. He wont get many more mins than he did in SA.

Whose minutes does he take?  Quis played very well prior to his injury and Tony has been the surprise of the season.

Dunno, this feels like more of a "make a move for the sake of making a move" situation.  Wing depth actually hasn't been a huge issue this year.

Still, Finley's a good guy and a hard player with championship experience, so hopefully it'll work out if it happens.

when Doc needs someone safe who can hit a shot if called upon, he'll take Tony's minutes

when he needs someone to play defense and be athletic, I hope he'll stick with Tony

Would have been more excited about this prior to the arrival of Nate, since Quisy is now basically backing up Pierce.  Still, with the injuries that PP has had, not a bad idea to have a solid vet who could give some quality minutes if PP needs some more time off.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
He may not help a ton, but if we've got the open spots, there are worse players to add than a good-shooting, high character veteran.

Yeah, I guess good outside shooting from the wing is still a pretty big need.  Well, we'll see if it happens.

I definitely like Mike over Hughes, too.  Glad we didn't take that route.

TA won't see the floor much with this. He won't get time ahead of Finley, Daniels, Ray or PP. He might come in for defense on a special play or something, but other than that he's likely riding pine.

I like this pickup. Of course it does just make us older!

We have the two roster spots... might as well use them.

He knows how to hit open shots.

He knows how to play defense.

I could see him squeezing TA out.
