Finley to the Celtics (merged thread)

Look I see a lot of you saying that Finley will have little impact on this team but I think he will have more then you think.  I am guessing that he is either taking all of TA Minutes or Daniels.  Reason for that is why would he ask to be bought out in SA to be in the same spot here,  that does not make sence.  So whos minutes does he take ?

 no one , he will be put in for shooting if needed for maybe 5 - 10 mins a game. If we need defense TA will play. Daniels mins won't change .

agreed!  TA in situations will help us as a defender, daniels is probably our bench mvp for the year (even with injury) so it'll be spot minutes for finley, taking a few from TA and a few from Scal

No risk at all, and potentially big advantages in the playoffs, who knows what Finley still has in the tank?

I hope he doesn't get in Tony's head for playing time or something but Finley could help us in the playoffs if he still can shoot and I think he can. Good addition, we badly needed more shooting off the bench and depth at the wing position.

I think you will see Finley playing in place of Tony Allen.  He is a better fit to play along side Nate and Daniels because he is a shooter.  Hopefully this means more Sheed on the low post, Finley lurking on the 3-point line, and Daniels slashing and doing his thing.  I think Allen and Daniels were too redundant to be on the floor at the same time.  Sorry Tony but I think you are now the 5th wing.

I also think I take Scal over Williams for the 5th Big for the playoffs, assuming Perk and everyone is "healthy" (what ever that currently means for KG).

I think a nice run is about to start although I am not sure KG is going to make it all the way to the end (I hope so).

PJ Brown was pretty good but Cassell, Marbury, and Moore weren't really anything to write home about and I don't think this will be either

I just don't see him doing anything as he will be 10th, 11th or 12th on the depth chart

Maybe he gives Pierce a little rest but given that Paul has had a bunch of down time, does he really need rest?

take scal over williams? why so he can get in there and score zero points, grab zero rebounds, fall over his own 2 feet and commit 3 fouls in 5 mins ?

I'd argue that PJ BRown was a little more than "pretty good."

Williams is more valuable as a big banger but if we have KG, Perk, Wallace, and Davis, we don't need another pure big.  Scal is more versitile than Williams.  Neither is very good and in the best case scenario, neither comes off the bench in the playoffs at a time when the game is still in question.

Hey, Scal is easy to dump on but I think he deserves to the the 12th man sitting on the bench next to Tony Allen.

finley has a valuable veteran experience that he offers, but i don't think this is a signing just for a "locker room presence."  this team doesn't need that.

he's being brought in, because deep down, the celtics do not trust tony allen...

Finley...got beat out by Bogans.  Let's meditate on that for a few minutes, then think about what he'll bring to the team.

Shooting:  Yes.
Defense:  NO.
Nice Guy:  Yes.
That matters?:  No.

A completely short-term plug-in for insurance only, of course, but I don't see this adding up to much now, and absolutely nothing in the future.  He should be the 10th man, at best, in an 8 man playoff rotation: 

Finley won't play ahead of Daniels, who will be primary backup to PP and Ray, both of whom are shooters...so there should always be a shooter on the court w/Daniels in the playoffs(either PP or Ray), plus another shooter in Nate, plus Wallace.  Fins will be insurance in case either Ray or PP get in foul trouble or hurt.  If he sees the court otherwise, we're probably in trouble.

I'm only 20yrs old, and With the probable signing of Michael Finley, I realize even more now, how fast time has flown by.

I mean who would have ever thought that an NBA roster would feature guys like: Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Rasheed Wallace and Michael Finley on it??

I mean, this is the starting lineup for the All-Star team in 2000 pretty much.

There could be times where all five of these guys will be on the court all at the same time, that'll be a wierd sight.

These guys were the first crop of stars and superstars, that I watched grow into their primes.

When I started watching the NBA (5,6,7yr old), I saw the tail end of guys' careers...(much like youngsters are watching with these celtics).....Guys like Hakeem, of course MJ, Ewing,Malone, Stockton, KJ, Barkely, Drexler, Pippen,Dumars,and others.

but the first guys I watched go from rookies into stars of the League, were guys like: KG, Sheed, the 96' class,Spreewell,Eddie Jones, Finley,Allan Houston,CWebb,McDyess,Steve Smith, Mashburn, Grant Hill, Glenn Robinson,Larry Johnson,i could go on and on.

And so I was initially excited when the big 3 first got together, and then they got Sheed, I was excited then, and now they're getting Michael Finley...and i'm getting excited again, but this time I'm thinking.."wait, how are all of these guys on the same team?" Then I realize I'm 20 and that its 2010 and not 2000.

Just had to write about it,b/c maybe in the next 15-20 years, I'll be posting on here, "Dang, how do we have Rondo,Tyreke Evans,Brandon Roy, Chris Bosh, and LaMarcus Aldrige all on the same team?"

I don't trust Tony Allen either. If it isn't his health that goes bad suddenly, then it's his basketball IQ. Either way. glad to have some insurance.
