He knows how to hit open shots.

He knows how to play defense.

I could see him squeezing TA out.

If he could still do this, then why would SA play Bogans over him? TA is at least equal to if not better than Bogans. I don't think you can count on Finley for defense, the guy is 37.

I wonder which number would Finley pick?
My guess is 8 or 40.
He can only help.

Whose minutes does he take?
He won't take anyone's minutes.  He is just an insurance policy.

Jackie MacMullen was talking about him on the radio the other day. She said he'd be a good pickup because he was one of the all-time great locker room presences.

Bogans is a BETTER defender (probably closer to the TA range), and can still hit the open shots.

But Finley is still a decent defender (or at least he was last year), and a good shooter.

I am really not sure if he has much left in the tank, but he did last year, and even if he is only on the team to give them another shooter for last second situations, then he is move valuable than an empty roster spot.

Bogans is better then TA

He defends just as well plus, he can hit the outside shot.

I am not too worried about Finley taking anyone's spot or minutes. I think it's a decent pickup considering the scraps out there but the best thing he brings is NBA Championship winning experience. (eg. Sam Cassell)
Carl: And, technically, he's supposed to be spayed, and uh, he ain't that. I know that first hand. Go ahead, ask me how I know. Go ahead. Ask me. Ask me how I know.

I guess I don't see how it hurts. We have the roster space available. If someone is slumping, it is just one more weapon off the bench (hopefully). I would love to expect a consistent effort from the bench like we saw last night but that may be wishful thinking
DKC Dallas Mavericks

SG: OJ Mayo

This may be the best reason I've heard for signing him - certainly the only compelling reason. Winning a championship is a journey and no two championship journeys are the same. The more different championship experiences we have on the team, the better. It's part of the reason I still like the Sheed signing - he brings his own championship experience to the table.

I could see Finley hitting some big shots in spot playoff minutes, so that can't be discounted.

But if not for the reasons above, there's not much reason to sign the guy...

I'm just confused why he hasn't played at all for SA this season and why they waived him. How is he going to take minutes from TA or get any minutes if he was just waived by a team that is worse than us. Also he is not going to be able to play SG anyway so the only player he could really take minutes away is Quis at SF. I guess he is insurance but if he sees the court when everyone is healthy that is not a good thing. Unless you love Rasheed's 3 point shooting and want another guy shooting them at the same clip then i wouldn't be getting too excited.

I guess its a good move to fill one of the roster spots...I just dont see him getting very many minutes. I really hope he doesnt take Quis's minutes because he has been playing great ball. Tony actually has been playing well too. Did we sign him just to sit on the bench and provide an extra coaching figure? Nice move, I just hope he doesnt expect much play time.

It can't hurt, I know that they sat down with him and discussed playing time before signing him. He will give us 5-10 minutes a game. Now we just need to sign a vet big to be our 6th big.

Great Pickup if the deal goes down. Like you said, at the very least he'll have a calming effect in the locker room. Don't be surprised if he hit some big shot in the playoffs.

This sounds funny but he will be a guy who will take and hit the corner three. No one on our second unit does that right now. He'll fit somewhere.

SA is deeper at the swing positions.

They start Hill and Bogans.

They have Manu and Jefferson off the bench.

Celtics have the two more talented starters, but they have better depth to their talent.  (SG/SF)
