I loved the highlights from that game.

Bird falling into the Hawks' trainer's lap as he drained a three, the Hawks players falling/leaping off the bench after every big shot. Just an unreal display by the Legend.

This is what gave me the chills. Respect and awe from your peers during a game is having ownership of that game and that moment. Unbelievable. I had never seen this compilation before of every shot. I had seen highlights and that's about it.

I've seen that entire game replayed before and Larry was pretty much making most of that game look easy.  When it was obvious that the C's were going to win late, he was so comfortable that he just shot whatever crazy shot he wanted to.  It didn't hurt that his teammates were cheering him on to shoot more.

Remember the backstory, though, McHale had just set a franchise record earlier that week and Larry told him he'd break it.  Fantastic.

I thought you meant he died for a second.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

  • You know my methods, Watson.
loved that game...

i remember the game in which bird told xavier mcdaniel where he was going to take the last shot in a game against seattle.

after bird buried it, bird looked at him and said, "I didn't mean to leave that much time on the clock..."

but it was x-man's reply that i love...  with a smile on his face he said, "I was like...[dang]!!"

It's the McHale factor that was the key in this.  There was such a high level healthy internal competition on that team, and Bird couldn't stand for McHale having the record when he was their leading scorer and go to guy.

It was a real treat getting to watch Larry play every night.  The anticipation that he might do something truly special was always there.
Yup

I just hope that a player that great is in a Celtics uniform at some point in my life so I can watch a performance like that as a fan of the team.

Watching the Bird/Magic show on HBO this past weekend was an eye opener with regards to the pain Bird went through his last few years.  Daily game day trips to the Doctor for traction?  That's insane.  Larry Legend actually ascended in my eyes and I didn't think it was possible.

while paul pierce is not on larry's level we all need to remember and cherish just how great a celtic paul is and has been... he may end up being the greatest celtic since bird that we see in our lifetime and i have to admit i would be happy with that since he has provided so much to us as fans!
