This sounds like a pathetic excuse for playing like crap but alot of posters have said before that this team is indeed coasting until the playoffs. If our veterens are so bored with the regular season then it is time for them to retire IMO. There probably are players in the NBA who get bored but they dont publicly state it as well let it effect their game until the point where they are loosing to the Nets. Before the season, Sheed said this team would win 70 games. Now since they arent going to do that, hes bored. This guy has the majority level of a 8 year old girl

I'm not really buying into the theory that they're coasting and don't care about winning. If anybody has a right to coast, it should be the Lakers right? I mean, they are the champs and all. Why aren't the Lakers coasting then? How come they go out and try to win every game? I hate the Lakers with a passion, but at least they play the game the way it's supposed to be played by going out there and trying to get the "W." If these guys are in fact, "coasting" i will be extremely disappointed. There's no reason for anyone to even watch the games then, until the playoffs start.

The only modern era team I can think of that talked of "coasting" was the Pistons. And they won one ring and coasted into irrelevance.

Larry Bird has called that series one of the most embarrassing moments of his basketball career and called out his team mates in a most public manner

If this team is bored and is just coasting expecting to turn it on come playoff time, they better take heed of what happened to a much better team than they are

And so there's no questioning how good that team was they had

Already mentioned in this thread. The entire team is in a state of denial and anyone buying this coasting thing..... I have asked a million times on this blog for someone to list me all the teams that coasted during the season and were still able to turn it on and win the championship. If it has happened, it has been very rare. And don't give me the Spurs, because their Win-Loss record during each of their four seasons will be far better than what the Celtics will fiinish with this year.

Finally, if they are bored and coasting, then don't talk about it to the press. Spending more than 5,000 for season tickets and the playoffs, that is pretty much the last thing I want to hear.

If Our Celtics are bored, that's one thing, but I really believe they will turn it on.

I'd still like for them to build some momentum, though..it's one thing to not get up for regular season games, but I hope they aren't building bad habits with this.

not sure what to make of this. on the one hand, i do think its more a mental issue than anything else (minus KG, though he's generally been getting better physically - pierce should also be fine by playoff time), and maybe they realize they can't put in the mental effort all game long, or else they'll be spent by the playoffs. there is something to that, actually, and in that case, the fact that they can get big leads on good teams suggests that, if it was the postseason, they'd keep the leads. BUT, yeah, i don't know if teams can just flip a switch. shaq's lakers did that once or twice, but it's not a given.

There was not one stretch of time where they coasted and then then faltered

Chripes they were 67-15 that year

What they went through in that December is not called coasting it's called getting into a slump during a long road stretch

They played 11 of 15 games away from the Garden and went 10-5 in that stretch

That's not coasting and I think your comparison between the greatest Celtic team ever going through a tough stretch in which they went 10-5 while playing 11 of 15 games away from the Garden and then losing a Christmas Day game away from home to a bad team ridiculous when compared to a team that has gone 13-16 over a two month stretch and lost to the one of worst teams in NBA history on a non holiday matinee game at home
