The quote possibly explains the way the team looks but if true it`s completely unacceptable

They are professionals paid extremely well yo give the 100% in every game. They don`t get to be bored. And if they can`t help it then they should think about changing job.

I bet you've won Employee of the Month a few times. Am I right?

We are almost in March and they have been on cruise control since Christmas. They should be well rested for the stretch run.

Except the team is playing so poorly that instead of being able to rest in the 4th quarters, Ray and Rondo are regularly playing 40+ minutes a night.

For all of you buying the "we are bored", "we are coasting" "We can turn it on for the playoffs" lines, I have several pieces of waterfront property in Florida at an excellent price.  ;D

For all of you who believe that vinnie has several pieces of waterfront property for sale, I have a team that can't contend because they've played poorly while injured in the middle of the season.

This type of attitude leads to one conclusion.

Reduce the number of playoff teams to 4 in each conference.  The 6 division winners and one wild card from each conference.

Will never happen, but it would push top teams a lot more.

I think this team is in denial.

Completely, and they're all in denial together...

The sociologists tell us that groups with high cohesion tend to not perform well (nobody wants to rock the boat).  Doc is too much of a **** to rock the boat, either, so this is what we get:  a completely underperforming team that knows it's underperforming and agrees to keep doing it (protecting their individual identity/belief they're great players/team) rather than try to win and risk learning that they really DON'T have "it" anymore.

This team won't play better until they dump the "cohesion" and start challenging each other to play their best...like these same players did in 08.

Did you just say that the 08 team lacked cohesion?

I think he means this team is too cohesive. We have a lockerroom of yes men who are to busy agreeing with each other, stroking each others egos and trying not to step on toes. That definitely seems to be the case, in my opinion. If that wasn't the case we probably wouldn't here stuff like "we're still the better team", "It's just the regular season" or "we're not really trying yet". I don't think we've had the guy who will go against the grain and tell guys to shut up and play ball when they try and throw out these excuses.

Definitely bad IMO. Old habits die hard. It's difficult to play poorly all season and suddenly flip the switch. We saw last playoffs how that kind of regular season inconsistency hurt us because it didn't magically disappear when the season was over.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I think we've had plenty of comments about not playing as a team and individual agendas and the like.

Bingo.

I think KG did that in 08, and it was infectious.  Remember how they talked about needing to get better after blowing out a team by 20?  That they weren't where they wanted to be?

I think KG's injury hurt his ability to hold other's accountable while he was working his way back to a top level himself really, really screwed up this team.

Or, Doc's complete inability (or anyone else's) to step into that role (it seems like a coach thing to do, IMHO).

Perhaps there have been some vague comments about coasting until the playoffs, or different agendas, but it still hasn't resulted in anyone doing anything differently on the court.  It's just general BS, not the same as holding each other accountable; nothing has changed.  Vague talk about needing to come together isn't the same as confronting individual group members to hold them accountable.  It's not the same as KG directly confronting/challenging the team, making BBD cry.  It isn't the same, because the group (including Doc) continues to allow individuals to do things on the court that hurt the team without consequence.  It's textbook.

Recall the talk of the intensity of practice in 08?  About how chippy it got?  How competitive?  We don't hear that anymore.

These quotes from Perk kind of make me feel more confident because we now have the confirmation that the team is coasting.

Like many of you I'm starting to worry that they won't be able to turn it on in the playoffs but I'm still confident they will do it... so all I can say is "we'll see", but if the team fails in the playoffs because of the same problems (blown leads, lack of killer instinct, etc), I will be very, very disappointed and clearly one of the first to blame this whole "coasting" strategy.

People are taking this "coasting" thing as disrespecting the fans a little too far. They may be "coasting" or think that some of these games that they lose are not a big deal but it's not like they aren't trying. They aren't literally not trying in games because they don't care about the seeding or they don't think the games are important. I think it is just mentally hard for a team to focus game in and game out through the entire 82 games before the playoffs. Does anybody really think it is easy to get up for a game against the Nets? It's probably pretty difficult. They might not have given a full effort against them but the game really doesn't matter and who in their life always gives a 100% effort in their work each and everyday? If you do then congrats to you but I'm not gonna be shocked when these guys don't
