They think they can turn it on for the playoffs. Its hubris.

However, with each terrible loss (losses like Cleveland, NJ, but which have been happening since December) their self-confidence crumbles just a little bit. Its starting snowball, and the team is clinging to its last threads of hubris. They have a thin shell of over-confidence covering an interior filled with fear, uncertainty, and panic. They cannot WAIT for the playoffs to start, because they're afraid of unraveling anymore. They really, really hope they can turn it on, but with each loss that hope gets a little dimmer...they don't like it, it scares them, it bothers us as fans....they'll get to the playoffs and either play terrific basketball with the stress of a slowly deteriorating regular season lifted off them (not likely, you can't just turn it on) or they will continue to play just the way they have played since December. Horribly.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I blame Rasheed. Or Marbury. Everything Stephon Marbury touches turns to crap. He's the Anti-Midas.

I would love to hear what Bill Russel thinks about this team.

Actually, there I wasn't really being sarcastic. I know Marbury tried hard and all, and desperately wanted to be a fit here, and I'm sure he's really a good guy (Just a little off his rocker) but every NBA team he touches gets cursed. Usually teams get BETTER when he leaves. Must not count if you didn't trade him.

As for Rasheed, yea. I agree I'm sick of his lazy attitude. I could pick people off the street and they would try harder than Wallace. It's disgusting.

Yeah they think they can just turn it on when the playoffs get here.
And you know what, they're right. I think  they will play better when the playoffs get here.

Except I think Cleveland, Orlando, and Atlanta, all have the exact same mindset, of turning it up when the playoffs get here. And those 3 teams are already playing at or close to playoff-level of basketball. So when they turn it up  they'll be at championship caliber level of play.

I guess our guys and old vets, have gotten so old, that they have forgotten that every other playoff team has the exact same mindset, of turning it up when the playoffs get here.

KG and Daniels were having a dominant game. They played under 30 minutes. Clearly they didn't care much about winning this game. In fact, I think Doc didn't go after it on purpose.

Ray only played 33 minutes in a losing effort. High 5 for the minutes complainers.

This is a new one. They lost the game on purpose. I thought I had heard every one in the book --  ::)

I think they care. They just can't sustain rallies. Their good spurts rarely go on for more than 10 points.  Tney don't seem to be able to put together a couple of 15 or 20 point spurts.  They look unconfident, tired, old, frustrated. Maybe they will turn it up a notch in the play-offs. Trouble is, they will need to turn it up 3 notches to go anywhere meaningful.

If we won this game and those guys were playing in the high 30's minutes wise you know people would be complaining about the minutes. People would be saying that there is a larger goal at stake, a championship, and that losing to the nets wouldn't matter in the big picture.

we should be able to win against the nets without playing those guys big minutes but just saying that if Doc was thinking "I'm not going to play these guys more than X minutes" i wouldn't mind it. It is the Nets after all. Losing to them sucks but beating them by 50 wouldn't really mean much either. It's the Nets...

There's a difference between losing a game on purpose and not going after it. Early during the game they were talking about how someone sending a message to the team with a photo of the championship trophy saying that teams win championships. So clearly Doc is trying to put a message across.

Again. They didn't lose on purpose, but if we really wanted this game we could've gotten it by just playing the people of were being effective more minutes.
