The other night when we lost to Cleveland, I stopped watching and turned on "Psych" because I was so sick of watching a team that was competing at roughly 50% the level of the opposing team. I don't blame PosImpos for not wanting to watch any more regular season games. And I don't think it's right to question whether or not he likes a team that is 26 million dollars over the salary cap but still managed to lose TO THE FREAKING NETS.

If being a fan mans seeing the alleged "game" the Celtics played today then looking my TV in the eye and saying "Buck up fellas, it's all gonna get better", well than you can keep it. Call me fairweather. I'm sick of making excuses for this team and putting my hopes on some cookies and ice cream future fantasy where suddenly they're going to "pull it together" with 25 games or something left in the season.

I said the same thing PosImpos said today but I know I will end up watching the games, because it's just what I do. I bet it's probably the same for him. But to see the teams' play today, and pretty much since christmas and not be completely disgusted doesn't make you a diehard fan. I think in a lot of ways it means you're not acknowledging the truth out there on the court. The proof is in the boxscores, guys.

I'm not alone either. Garden booed today. Garden booed against Cleveland too (although I didn't notice it during the game). Garden must be a 'smidge fairweaterish'.

Precisely.  TP.

I have been a fan for 50 years and I know that sometimes it is very difficult to watch games.  I also know that Nobody, and I mean Nobody, likes to lose.  I am sure the Celtics are working hard to get everyone healthy and find a winning combo and strategy.  If watching the process is to hard, then it is time to take a break.  This does not mean someone is not a fan!  This is, for us, entertainment!  It is not a life job that you have to do.  When it becomes comfortable for you, you will be back and we will be here to welcome you.

For some of us, the process is infinitely fascinating.  We may disagree on the methods (tear it up and start over, tweak it, or stand pat) but find the day to day very interesting and worthy of our "expert" opinions, pro or con  ;D.  We will be watching 'til the end.

As fans we have opinions, but how many of us actually have a stake, aside from emotional, in any sports team?  The owners, staff, players, coaches, etc.  are the ones whose careers depend on results and I am sure they are looking for solutions.

Posimpos,

I find you to be one of the more passionate and dedicated Celtic fans on this board

You are not the only person I have heard say this as people in my own life have said the same thing and even asked me how is it I can stand to watch this team even when I know they are only going to give a half hearted effort on almost any given night

I don't question their loyalty or fandom and I don't question yours

I remember how hard it was watching this team in the early 90's when you just KNEW they were less talented and too old and beat up to seriously compete for a title

You just KNEW that no matter what they did they were never going to be good enough to beat the likes of LA, Detroit and Chicago because they were done

It got very hard to watch knowing there was no future for a title those years

It has to be the same for you and many others this year

I've been through this and I think a lot of others have so for me I have learned to lower my expectations and just cheer but even that is difficult to do sometimes

Yesterday was one of those times

You will be sorely missed around here for your great opinions and impassioned views if indeed you won't be letting us read what you have to say about this team because you won't be watching them

Maybe you can do what I like to do in bad Celtic times

I watch a ton of college ball and fancy myself scouting for the next great Celtic

Players I'm am paying attention to right now for the Celtics future: Xavier Henry - Kansas, Quicy Pondexter - Washington, Devin Ebanks - West Virginia, Willie Warren - Oklahoma, Damion James - Texas, Greg Monroe - Georgetown, Larry Sanders - Virginia Commonwealth

I see two or three of these guys being impact NBA players and could imagine all of them as Celtics

Good luck, see you in April!!!

I understand you feelings PosImpos. I don't know what to add that's not been said already, except that it's too bad we won't see you post until the playoffs.

It's clear that watching the C's lately has become kind of a "torture" for fans. I will still watch every game and I'm still confident this team can win it all but I won't get up in the middle of the night to watch them play anymore because it's not worth the effort, and since it's really frustrating to watch them play great basketball to suffer a second half collapse and a tough loss (although this season has taught me to lower my expectations).

See you in April... and hopefully sooner. :)

all i know is that if the team is playing like crap or winning a title....i still watch, support, and root for the team.  i have done so since the 80s.  has this team frustrated the hell out of me and even disappointed me....hell yea.  but i will never say i wont watch them.  to do so only reinforces what mike bibby said about celtics fans a couple years ago that got everyone on these boards so upset about.  maybe he was right about *some* celtics fans.

i will never stop watching regardless of how they perform bc i love this team thru the good and bad....my blood is green....but again, thats just me.

season ticket holders do, imo.  they make a financial investment/commitment, which impacts the franchise.  i have spent thousands and thousands of dollars over the years

I think it's kind of unfair to hold every Celtic fan to the same standard you hold yourself and then if they don't have that same dedication to infer they are fair weather fans

And let's face it you didn't say it directly but that is what Bibby did say and now what you are inferring about fans that don't have the same dedication of following the team that you do

It's a lot easier to watch a team that isn't supposed to win lose, then to see one which isn't supposed to lose win. Watching this team underachieve is definitely torture, but I'm here for the ups and downs. I've been following this team faithfully years before KG, and Ray came to town and will do so long after they leave.

Anyways see ya come play-off time...

 :)

This is very frustrating because of the fact that we are built to win now but are "bored".  I think I enjoyed the horrible years before the big 3 more than this year because while I wanted to see the young players develop, I was kind of always hoping for losses to get better draft picks.  I want to see this team win, and there is nothing more maddening than a lack of effort.  I'm not going to be skipping any games, however.  They are still the Celtics.

by saying...."thats just me"....im only talking about how i view things.  i understand that people have their own views, opinions, and ways of dealing with things.....but i have every right to voice my opinion, the same way others do.

my personal definition of a fairweather fan is someone who only watches and supports the team when things are going well.  which is similar to what bibby stated. so in this case, when someone says they are done watching the team until the playoffs, i think bibby is partially right.

i didnt create this thread, im merely giving my thoughts about the original post/viewpoint.

But by calling him a fairweather fan, whether directly or indirectly, aren't you basically breaking the rules of the site

Not every fan has the same dedication as you do and while you are entitled to your opinion of them, voicing your opinion of them for that dedication in the manner that you are isn't what this site is supposed to be about

At least that's the way I understand the rules and general attitude that pervades this site

I haven't been here long but in the time I have Posimpos has always seemed a very dedicated Celtic fan

Fairweather is not a label I would put on him or IndeedProceed or some of the others that understand and agree with his plight

I think you are being grossly unfair

i don't think anyone that posts on here on a regular basis is a fairweather fan. many are frustrated with what looked to be a very promising season.

i didnt call or label anyone!  i made a general comment about about how i view things.  the bibby reference was based on my own personal definition of what i think a fairweather fan is.  i didnt call the op or IP or anyone fairweather fans or anything for that matter. i made general statements and even ended my posts by saying "thats just me".  i thought, since u quoted my last post, that i made this abundently clear.

no need to play mini mod and try to start anything here.....im not going to try and take ur bait.  im done with this thread
