I am pretty confident in this prediction. It pains me to make it. But the reality is: We will probably win in the first round, because the teams 5-8 are pretty weak, and get blown out in the second, because the other teams in top 4 (CLE, ATL and ORL) have our number.  We can no longer talk about getting healthy, or building team chemistry, or getting our mojo back. We are incapable of dominating just about any team, including the Nets. The good teams toy with us for a couple of quarters and then hand us our lunch. It is sad to say, but our run is over.  I'd like to say it was fun while it lasted, but I expected more than one championship out of this.  Call me greedy.  In retrospect, it appears that last season was our only other real chance to win anotehr with this squad.  The KG injury obviously killed that hope.

As much as Ray has fully redeemed himself, and is one of the few bright spots we have had of late, I really wish Danny could have gotten some young talent back in a trade of his contract.  He gambled that once healthy, we could compete for a championship. That was a miscalculation on his part.

You're basing this prediction on a gut feeling after a tough loss...I think it would be better to get through the first round, and see who we face before we declare us lost in the second.

If we face the Hawks in the second round, I really have no grounds to disagree with you. I still feel that the playoffs are a completely different season though, and we could beat Orlando. Remember, we have Superman's kryptonite (Perk).

My feelings exactly.  If we swept the first round opponent and looked impressive doing so, I think the OP might feel a little more optimistic.

Honestly, I didn't even read the OP's post.  Why?  Because anyone, including me, who thinks they have any clue about how this team is going to play in two months is just crazy.

KG still isn't 100% and Paul Pierce is out.  If that changes by May, we could go a lot further.  If that doesn't, we could lose in the second round.  Heck, Ray and Rondo could go out of the season tomorrow and we could lose in the first round.  But none of us know how any of that will turn out.

All that really matters is that we're 100% for the playoffs.  Looking at a portion of the season and assuming that it's going to continue indefinitely is like looking out the window at midnight and assuming day will never come again.

The OP is correct, and this is not just based on the last couple of months.  This started in November, when the Celts lost a Friday night game to Atlanta.  They have not manned up against the top teams in the east the whole season.  Their record at home is abomidable.  This team is not getting very far.  I honestly dont care how they play over the next 2 months with games against the best teams in the league behind us.

They still play the Cavs two more times.

Anyways, I agree with Jon. We don't know for sure yet.

To me, if this team really thinks they can simply "turn it on" come playoff time, then I'm inclined to see them do so.

Prediction: in the seemingly unlikely event that we make the ECF or Finals, alot of posters will pretend they never posted things like this, lol.

The OP COULD be correct, but as indeed pointed out it's all hogwash until we get there.

for instance, what if a 6 seed upsets?

to many variables, I'll wait till we get there to make snap decisions. example: alot of posters back in 2008 said we had no shot at a championship after letting atlanta take us 7 games and being unable to win on the road.

That's why i find predictions semi-pointless. If there right, hurray the person guessed correctly. If not, no one ever brings them up again.

I could boldly predict that the Lakers, the Cavs, the Hawks, the Magic, the Celtics, the Nuggets, the Spurs, the Jazz and the Mavs all have no shot at winning the title. Worst case, almost 90% of my predictions are correct.

Exactly.

This is seriously getting ridiculous, it has always been a pleasure to come on CB and now I find myself disgusted by all the negative posts and "doom and gloom" threads, where you get almost attacked if you show some positivity or enthusiasm about the Celtics. Calm down, people!

No, my conclusion after watching this team play 56 games.  That is enough data to make a prediction.

If that happened, which I doubt, we might be able to push the second round to 6 games. But does anyone in their right mind think we have a decent chance to even get into the 3rd round, never mind the finals??

Maybe so. My predictions are usually pretty good.  I don't think I am going out on a limb here.  This deep into the season, with these results, I am surprised so many are surprised by this prediction.  Seems plain as day to me.
