Go to Dominican Republic Punta Cana ;)

Yeah, that has jumped up near the top of our list.  It seems like you get a lot for your money there.

Well, IMHO the best part of the Carribean is the southern part, from St. Lucia on down.  I love Bequia and the Grenadines, especially for sailing. You might check out this resort on Petit St. Vincent, with the caveat that I've never stayed there (although I vaguely recall anchoring in the bay at Petit St. Vincent and doing some snorkeling).

When we went to the travel show the other day, St. Lucia really jumped out at us. Not only because its so nice, but also because apparently it is far enough south that it very rarely is hit by hurricanes (which is good, since we are going in late September).  Of course the downside is that it seems a bit more expensive than places like the Dominican Republic...but that might be worth it.

I would definitely recommend the Occidental Grand in Cozumel, Mexico.  Cozumel is a little bit more mild than Cancun, but it is also a little pricier.  There is terrific SCUBA diving and snorkeling available and the island is a really cool place to explore.

psst... but the Southern carribean is generally less expensive. It takes longer to get there and it is much less developed.  But there are few resorts, which I like because its unspoiled.  Also, as Chris said, few hurricanes, although Ivan certainly did a number on Grenada.

Why unspoiled?  Well, St. Vincent is rich in history but has no good beaches.  It also has an active volcano that erupts every so often, which can ruin your vacation.  Moustique is probably the ritziest island in the Carribean but everything is private.  Unless you are Mick Jagger, Tommy Hilfiger or a member of the British royal family, good luck trying to find a place to stay.  And many of the islands are just too small and hard to reach.

I hope it stays that way.

Look into Grand Cayman.

We went as part of a two seperate cruises.  It's small, but it is very very nice.  excellent snorkling/diving.

Or Curacao -- which was my gf's all time favorite.

Stayed at Breezes Bahamas about 3 years ago.  Its about a 10min car/bus ride from the cruise port/downtown area in Nassau.  Pretty nice place - nice beach (Cable Beach), casino next door, all-inclusive.  We stayed for 5 days and got a first floor room that had a little patio area outside with 2 chairs and then the beach was right there.  Rooms were decent, not spectacular.  Food was pretty good and certainly plentiful.  There are a couple bars where you can get drinks (included) anytime.

The price was pretty cheap compared to other all-inclusives and the flight is not bad since New Providence Island is only a short flight from Miami.  Downtown area is a 10 min, $1 bus ride from the resort.  The Straw Market is a must see.  That place is crazy...

We visited some of the old forts on the island which was pretty cool and we also swam with Dolphins on Blue Lagoon island - that was amazing!

I have also been to the Sandals grande st. lucian.

I would say Sandals could be a good place to go to, but avoid that one. nothing particularly wrong with it, but nothing special either.

Nice.  I'd love to check out Curacao.  What did you think of it?

Curacao was great.  But it is very very small.  it was very 'cute' and 'quaint'.  Not built up and modernized, but yet very very clean.

Snorkling/diving was the best I have ever seen.  clean water, lots of colorful fish, etc...

The actual island is very colorful (google it and you will see pictures of some of the buildings)

I was only there for one day (on a cruise), but would love to go back.  I am not sure how much there really is to do on the island (i.e., if you were there for a week), but the beaches were great, so I doubt it would be an issue.

Punta Cana is in vogue

I also recomend

Roatan and
any Sol Melia in Centro America

Sol Melia is better than decameron, cheaper than sandals
and their all inclusive specially if you pay for the upgrades are great.

Go to tripadvisor.com and put in all of these suggestions. Then go to Secrets Maroma beach Riviera Cancun and have a great time. I promise you will not be disappointed.   PS Caution you are traveling during hurricane season!!!!!

My girlfriend and I have gone to two amazing all-inclusive resorts.

First we went to El Cid in Riviera Maya Mexcio, then Dreams in La Romana Dominican Republic.

They were both amazing.  I'd give the edge to El Cid.

I just booked an all inclusive trip to Aruba Tamarijn all inclusive resort.  The hotel isn't the nicest in Aruba but we won't be spending that much time in there anyways.

Also Aruba doesn't get hit by hurricanes.  Whereas in September other Carribean places might.

Jamaica: RIU Ocho Rios.  Perfect beach and ocean, great food, not adults-only but not very many kids running around, perfect perfect place.  Very romantic and wonderful.  Lots of restaurants, there is a hot tub.

DR: Secrets Excellence Punta Cana.  Adults only.  Perfect, huge, romantic, no kids, tons of restaurants, no reservations required at any restaurants, perfect beach and ocean.  You won't leave the resort, but won't need to.  There is a hot tub and fitness center.

Barbados, Almond Casurina: pink sand, great food, safe and really cool island for exploring, some kids at resort but not too many, perfect perfect warm gentle waves in the turqoise water, very close to awesome town and great marketplace with fish fry; tons of activities.  Small fitness center, no hot tub.

Also check out, based on what I have heard: RIU Aruba, Occidental Grand Aruba.

IMPORTANT: do your research on tripadvisor, and use your judgment to decide which reviews to trust and which ones are just unreasonable people complaining too much.  You have to find answers to important factual questions like whether the beach is good for swimming.  Don't assume that just because they build a resort on a particular spot, it must be a good beach.  We went to Bluebay Esmeralda Riviera Maya in Yucatan, and the beach was horrible: rocky, slimy, unswimmable.  Do your research before you book.  If you go to any of the three I mention above, you will love it.  It is very hard to find out whether resorts have gyms and hot tubs for some reason, and many in the carribean do not have hot tubs, they probably assume people don't want hot tubs in hot weather, but in my opinion this is a straw herring.
