I highly recommend "Moon Palace Resort" in Cancun. This all inclusive resort is outside of the city, about 10 minutes away from the Hotel Strip. Just give it consideration...Absolutely amazing. message me with any questions.

Puerto Morelos, Mexico. It's on the Yucatan peninsula, has the second largest reef in the world, the city center is cool, not overly touristy and no BIG CHAINS. Great indigenous food, very cheap, great fishing and swimming--and between cancun and playa del carmen, about half an hour either way. It's so great we've been there twice and am getting married there next Sunday!

I live in the south so flights to Cancun are very inexpensive.  So is there a difference between flying to the carribean and to mexico?

My parents own a travel agency, so I have had quite few trips to Mexico in the last few years.  I also went to Mexico last year for my honeymoon.  I don't think I could recommend one until I know what your "style" is.

For example:  My wife and I enjoy really good food, personal service, and a wonderful pool bar.  We don't ever leave the resort for excursions of any type.

So we want the best hotel for the dollar.  Some people would rather skimp a bit on the hotel in favor of doing some excursions like swimming with the dolphins, hiking, etc.

So what is your style?

As a suggestion, I would not rule out Cancun based on its reputation of a party city.  Yes, if you want to party there is plenty of it there but we never leave the resort and never see anyone partying.

Also, don't go to a place that allows kids.  A kid jumping into the pool splashing everyone, screaming at their mother, etc has a way of getting in the way of a time for relaxation.

So let me know if you plan to leave the resort often, and I can give you some great recommendations for Cancun and Riviera Maya area.

I'm glad so many are endorsing Punta Cana! I'm going there for a bachelor party in July.  :)

I went to Jamaica back in September and it was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

Driving through the villages is kinda sketchy (but I'm also paranoid) but once you're at the resorts it's quite safe and welcoming. I didn't stay here, but I'd recommend the "Couples" resort. It was pretty big and I saw people being handed drinks and whatnot like they were kings. In addition to being the biggest, it also appeared to be the nicest resort on the beach.

My wife and I went on out honeymoon a few months back, we went to the Dominican republic.  Ended up deciding on a Punta Cana all inclusive resort for two weeks.  Money well spent let me tell you.  Stones-throw from the ocean, great food, not far from town.  Check it out!

Good Luck!

Quite frankly, with the exception of a few restaurants on the French side of St. Martin, I've never found really great food in the Carribean.  But maybe times have changed.

So it looks like we are going to Sandals Ocho Rios in Jamaica.  My parents were able to get us in their through their timeshare company.  It should be a great time...now we just are going to cross our fingers for no hurricanes.
