The OP simply is not gving enough credit to somebody like Lawson.  Once he has the clear view to the basketball, they isn't much anyone can do to stop him.  Not even someone as quick as Rondo.  Because even if he had sprinted full speed to get in front of Lawsonm, which is no easy feat, then Lawson changes direction and still makes a layup.  Plus, did you not notice Lawson did use his body to shield Rondo.  He would have had to rn through him to get in front.  Face it, Rondo was beat and he made the right play.

About the only thing that Rondo could have hoped for was a foul really.  And what if he get a clear path foul?  Or an And 1?  The liklihood was that Rondo would have made things worse by pushing it there.

  • You say when......
Can't be a star every night...only Jordon could do that. He has been a great point guard. He is the teams best rebounder, assist man, layups, he totally improved his shot (unlike scal BBD, sheed 3-pointers). Compare him evenly with the rest of the team, the rest of the league.....besides, it was back to back road games...Rondo is fine with me, it wasn't his lack of effort that made us lose yesterday.....Besides, for the whole team, Friday night game in
Portland, then Sunday afternoon over in Denver, mile high-land..that is a tough tour..! LA was that week also.....

This is probably the right answer here.  What's been lost in the discussion is that it's not that simple for Rondo to "just get in front of the guy".  Rondo is one of the fastest players in the league, but so is Lawson, and Lawson played far fewer minutes, is used to the Denver air, and had a head start on Rajon.  He's also already one of the best players in the league at getting to the basket and converting on a 1 on 1 breakaway.  Letting him go, committing a clear path foul, or committing a foul on the layup that could be an And 1 or called a flagrant were the only real options.  I'm comfortable with what he did there.

I see the point you guys are making.  I just can't imagine someone like Tayshaun Prince giving up on a play like this, even if he was tired.  You lose the ball on a turnover that badly, and if you have pride you fight like hell to make sure it's just a turnover.

I think Rondo had room to get in position, but it's impossible to prove on a message board.  I still think he should have tried.  It's no different then his other matador defensive plays, so it stuck out to me yesterday.

i just think it is comical to "summarize" his game based on ONE play!!!  LOL.

no player is perfect, including rondo.  however, with what he brings to the table....the positives far outweigh the negatives!

every team in the league would consider themselves fortunate to have a young player like rondo, yet you want to complain about one play.

Lawson changed the game yesterday.  I was really impressed with him.

As I stated above, I didn't want to get into a laundry list.  I've watched probably 200+ games that Rondo has played.  This play is just typical of his style in my opinion.

Or that it is just a matter of time before the negatives get fixed

The only thing I'm frustrated about is that he lets guys like Chauncey Billups turn him into a liability.  Yes, Chauncey will be able post him.  However, Rondo should be running circles around Billups and making him look like an old man with a walker.  This happened sometimes, but too often Rondo was letting Billups drive by him.  That's really inexcusable.  At the very least, he should be able to stay in front of him.

Some of this, however, may have been fatigue.  Hopefull with Nate here we can keep his minutes in the 34-36 range at least for the regular season.

Rondo's #1 problem is trying to throw the flashy pass instead of the right pass.  He has no interest in hockey assists, which makes him turnover prone.

Okay, help me out with this one

Turnover prone??

He only has 2.9 TOs per game and his TO Ratio is almost exactly average for PGs in the league

He has one of the highest assist to turnover ratios in the league

Does he at times get theatrical with his passes, sure

But his results for a 23 year old is astounding

He is far from turnover prone but I will say he probably does have more turnovers than he could have

Chuckle. Well, I had to read this thread because I rather enjoy train wrecks.

As the house Rondo critic - and there aren't many - even I have to say that I've been generally pleased with his development this year.

He still doesn't work as hard as I'd like, but other phases of his game are incrementally better.

To the OP: You should have watched Rondo loaf two years ago. Now, that was laziness.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Wow, so overstated. Maybe the reason he pulled up is he can't foul out. He truly was at that time the only pg on the team, the only one who could bring the ball up--he can't try to be a hero on every play. You should applaud him for staying composed and not committing a stupid foul after he effed up!
