I know 90% of the people on here will defend Rondo, but yesterday one play just summed up Rondo for me in a nutshell.

He loses control of the ball, Ty Lawson picks it up and starts off towards the basket.  Rondo could have hustled and tried to get between Lawson and the basket, but instead he Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.-foots it sideways and pretends like he's going to block Lawson from behind, but then just pulls up.

A real basketball player would have done whatever he could to get in front of Lawson.  Anyone who says "Lawson is fast, there's no way Rondo could have done that" is wrong.  Lawson wasn't going full-speed, and Rondo was able to stay neck-and-neck with him while running SIDEWAYS.

Rondo then comes down and makes an incredible drive and layup.  And in his mind he probably thought "Now we're even."  In my mind he's a lazy player who doesn't sack up when he makes a turnover and try to make up for it with tough defense.

Maybe Nate will help decrease his minutes so he can play his hardest.

Maybe.

Rondo wasn't lazy, he was exhausted.

He sat on the bench for a few minutes after that play, you could see he was completely sucking wind. Huge breaths, he was having a hard time with the altitude I think.

I thought this thread was going to be about his unwillingness to keep his feet in front of his man vs trying to poke the ball out from behind. That qualifies as a little laziness, but this play was clearly exhaustion.  I am sick of the former though, but he does SO much else good that I am willing to overlook it.

Same here, and I was ready to enter the thread to agree with whatever was said on that regard. Or maybe about pushing the ball a bit more and be a bit less lazy with his passes at times (like at the beginning of the Denver game).

But, yeah, I can't agree with anything said in the OP.

he conceded the basket instead of getting a foul.  It wasn't laziness.  He was beat.

Rondo's the best player on this team.  Have some respect for the franchise player.

He could have gotten back

If he really was exhausted, why run sideways with the guy, trying to poke it out from behind?  Plus, if had gotten in front of him at half court he wouldn't have had to run as much as he ultimately did.  He could have used lateral quickness to slow him down, or just foul him.

If he was totally gassed, I can understand that.  But if he was, how could he get the ball right back and sprint down and drive the hoop for a layup??  If he was that tired he would have passed the ball up.

He cared more about his own offense and not about atoning for turning the ball over.  It's a pride thing in my opinion.  He lost the ball, got it stolen, and felt embarrassed so he didn't want to try to hard to make up for it and possibly look more stupid if Felton scored.

Overreaction?  Whatever.

Yeah, if Rondo would have been more aggresive on that play, he likely would have only compounded an already bad play.  He was beat and trying to do more would have made things worse.  I am glad he was smart enough to realize that.

But yes, the real topic of this thread should have been Rondo's defense on Billups yesterday.  IMO, it was attrocious.  I understand Billups using he strength on Rondo but he did almost none of that yesterday.  Billups was simply breaking down Rondo at will.  He basically went by him when he wanted to.  That simply shouldn't happen and that was the most frustrating thing about the game yesterday.

He had a rough one yesterday but, for the most part, he played very well on this west coast trip.

he did that because lawson already had a clear lane to basket and didn't want to foul him and make it a 3 point play.

That's fatigue. Rondo handles are usually rock solid. For about 3 seasons, Rondo hasn't had the luxury of a back-up PG  Now that Nate is here, Celtics can expect great things from Rondo.

Whatever.  Watch the replay.  He could have rather easily, for Rondo at least, gotten in between Felton and the basket.  He half-assed it down the court like he was going to possibly swat it from behind because he was either lazy or embarrassed.

Chauncey Billups would have manned-up if he had lost the ball.  He would have sprinted and at least TRIED to get between his man and the basket and prevent an easy layup as if his life depended on it.

Rondo is supremely talented, don't get me wrong.  But he doesn't have the attitude that a true superstar has.

Hell, even Kobe would have done everything in his power to prevent that layup.

He was out of gas.  You could see that.
