he has done a good job running pick and pop while still drawing a lot of fouls ... i wish he did that a bit more ... going inside is important, but he has that habit Perk has of taking a very long time to load up after the catch, while lacking Perk's size (and Perk of course gets blocked a lot).

He is a little miscast in this offense - because he has some of the chops to do a little stretch-4 work ... no, he is not a 3 point shooter, but he can floor space with his J ... but the Celtics cannot cover the pick and roll with him and PERK at the same time, so Baby has to be the Perk backup.  Sheed and Garnett take the top in the alignments.

I also meant to add that Davis is apparently better than Shelden b/c of his offense.  I have yet to see Davis create his own shot with any sort of consistency.  It's like having Scalabrine on the floor, except Scalabrine has value in spreading the floor and minimizing his mistakes.

I'm seriously beginning to doubt the ability of some people to observe a basketball game.

There have been several occasions in the last month alone where we've dumped the ball to Baby at the end of the shot clock and let him get us a shot, usually a fall away jumper, or a rolling hook shot.  In terms of shot creating ability, he's no Paul Pierce, but he's certainly a lot better than Scal or Williams or Perk.

The Sheldon hands problem is more than not catching the ball.  He actually has decent hands--they're just small.  So, that smallness leads to a lack of strength and then to a bunch of mis-handles, while also leaving him susceptible to having the ball poked away when he's attempting shots at the rim.  Having small, weak hands isn't a good attribute in a basketball player and it's pretty much sealed the deal as to why Williams is a 12th man type in the NBA.

I would assume you mean my observations.  I observe a player, Glen Davis, who cannot consistently create his own shot.. the key word being consistent.  I observe him playing better this year in some regards, but having completely regressed in many others.  I observe the effect he has while on the court, and have determined it to be a net negative.  I observed this last year.  Come to think of it, my observations match up exactly with most every statistic listed on 82games for the last two regular seasons.  Unfortunately Sheldon isn't a great solution, which is why Perkins should be getting more minutes instead of Davis.  The topic however is about giving Sheldon some burn time in place of Davis... something I am a fan of simply b/c it couldn't hurt to try.  Both players need confidence in case they are needed down the stretch, but realistically neither player should be getting more than 8 minutes a game between them if this team is operating correctly

I have an idea - let's compare the actual stat totals of these 2 players this year (not counting the Knicks game).

BBD min 441 fgm 56 fga 126 fg% .444 ftm 42 fta 62 ft% .677

SW  min 435 fgm 39  fga 80 fg% .488 ftm 53 fta 71 ft% .746

BBD pts 154 oreb 55 dreb 52 reb 107 ast 18 st 10 blk 6 to 24 f58

SW  pts 131 oreb 34 dreb 82 reb 116 ast 17 st 8 blk 15 to 27 f64

Tell me what these stats say to you.

This is what they say to me: Both players should be getting playing time.

Baby hits the o glass better and Shelden the d glass. Baby took 46 more shots than Shelden. Shelden goes to the line more and has a higher ft%. Shelden has almost 3 times as many blocks than Baby has.

Overall it looks pretty even to me.

You know, I'm shocked Shelden can't catch the ball with how long he's been in the league.

Anyways: 1st column's offensive rebounds, 2nd column's defensive rebounds, third column's total rebounds.

BBD: 2.1 2.0 4.1

Shelden: 0.9 2.3 3.2

This myth that Shelden can rebound better than BBD is kinda silly. As far as I see, and no offense to EJPLAYA, but people see BBD getting blocked in the post and then make topics like this. It's definitely a weakness, but it doesn't suddenly mean you throw Shelden out there.

BBD's better. Does it mean Shelden should be benched completely? Probably not. But don't fool yourself on Shelden just cause he can jump. It's the same kind of talk that people used to say Bill Walker can play, yet Bill Walker can't even get off the bench for the Knicks in two games, while Eddie's getting 30+ minutes.

In truth, Shelden can't really jump either. He's missed 2 or 3 dunks this year. At least Baby knows his limitations...

I don't think you can say that a pf that gets almost 1/3 of his inside shots blocked knows his limitations...

I would like to replace one or both with a longer and more athletic guy. The problem is finding one cheap that can play. Both Baby and Sheldon are primarily bangers and while that has some value, they are not very athletic when you come down to it.

As to who plays and when...I am not sure Sheldon can match BBD's shooting and we definitely need the 2nd unit scoring. Sheed and Eddie werent gettin it done, maybe Nate will help enough to 'energize' the offense.

Sorry, but I had to revisit this thread.

This thread was kind of ridiculous when it was making it's run and continues to show why it was so ridiculous.

Wait until Davis gets his shot blocked 8 times in game 5.  Then Doc will have no choice but to turn to THE MIGHTY SHELDEN!

Seriously, though, I hope Davis is studying the tapes of this series because they illustrate the formula for him pretty clearly.  He's always going to get blocked a bit more than average, but it's when he and the defenders are in motion that he can use his bulk and body control to at least have a chance.  When he's flatfooted and the defense is set, he has almost no chance at all.

I wasn't ridiculous in February when Baby was playing like poop but it's definitely ridiculous now.  We could have a "time to sit KG and give Baby starters minutes" thread now.

Wrong. BBD is playing good for this team, he's giving us a force on the offensive boards that that will win us games.

this ‘ghandi’ guy sounds pretty smart.

After last night's performance I couldn't believe someone started a thread with this title.  I am relieved.
