Think he'll sign for the MLE?

That would be incomprehensible.  A young star would not take approximately $50 million less over 5 years to play for the Celtics (or anyone).  When a guy is down to his last couple of years, they may take an MLE contract to be on a contender, but not when their earning power is at its peak.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
We're not getting Joe Johnson... I think when we failed to move Ray at the deadline, it was pretty much a sign that we would try resign Ray to a reduced amount and push forward with the group we have for the  foreseeable future.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Agreed wholly; we're riding this group as long as we can, and likely rebuilding (either through free agency or by being REALLY bad again and getting some good draft picks) starting in 2012.

So, even if Wyc was willing to pay big $ in luxury tax, he still couldn't get Johnson, right?

Via signing him no. Via sign and trade with all parties willing, sure.

There is no way we get Joe Johnson, too many teams have capspace to sign him. Atlanta wouldn't do a sign and trade with us.
