Is there any way for the Celtics to get Joe Johnson for next season?  From what I understand, the Celtics are not able to add a max contract, but I remember Wyc saying that they would be able to.  So, what's the deal?  In what way are they able to add a max contract like Wyc says?  Is a sign & trade with Ray the only way?

No.  It's pretty much impossible.  Even with a Pierce opt-out.

Read this.  R.H. did a pretty comprehensive write-up.

The way he figures we might be possible to get a max deal is with a sign and trade involving Ray and other players. I don't see us having any assets to make it happen practicality-wise.

If Joe agrees to take a MLE contract we could get him

Barring that....it's not happening

SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham

I think a Ray + Perk for Joe Johnson trade would make a lot of sense. The C's get an all star SG just entering his prime . We could get a center with the MLE . Big Z and Shaq will be free agents, don't you think if Shaq doesn't win this year with Lebron (and Lebron bolts for a new team) he would like to stick it to Kobe and Kupcheck by winning a title with the C's?

For Atlanta they get a starting center they get to put next to Al Horford. They also get an aging all star who won't be as expensive as Johnson.

Its a long shot, but a deal like that with Perk + Ray might land us a young allstar to team with Rondo for the next 5 years

I think the far more likely scenario is that Atlanta retains Joe Johnson.  They can offer him more money and they're an up and coming young team.

Just a question.   Can we use multiple players in a sign and trade?    Maybe a sign and trade of TA, Nate Robinson, throw in Davis, and maybe a 1st round pick for Ray's replacement.   Then sign Ray to be our 6th man, re-sign Daniels and fill out the rest of the roster with the MLE and vet min guys.   Not sure what the rules are in a sign and trade though.

Al Horford is a center why would Atlanta want another

He is really a PF playin Center , just like Al Jeffereson or Amare. You put a legit tough Center next to Al Horford and you will see him get even better. Josh Smith can easily play SF.

Dare I say it, but the idea of Perk plus Pierce might also be a viable option for a young star. Current window closes but rebuild would be on the move with Rondo and JJ (Bosh, Wade).  Hard to replace what Perk brings... A little easier to get a semblance of Pierce (or Ray, given the other stated option).

Or Pau when we beat them in the finals without Bynum and he had to play center.
