I'm guessing Houston is going to be taking Jeffries to get Martin, so that would open the door for Battier to be available, IMO.

This facilitates the needs of the other teams and completes the Nate deal as well.

Thoughts?

Houston still might keep him if they really believe they can a playoff push.

I still think Battier won't get traded because the Rockets are (rightfully so) high on him but sign me up for this deal, I love it!!

Battier would be a perfect fit for the C's and I've been dreaming of him in green for a long time.

I don't like losing Baby in that deal though, we would have to hope a productive big man gets bought out to make that deal because having Sheed and Shelden as our only backup bigs wouldn't be enough.

Anyway, you got my hopes high before the deadline now, so I hope your idea will come true, although it's unlikely. :P

Maybe if you replaced Davis with Perk they would consider it.

Certainly true. I'm banking on the idea that they want financial flexibility this summer and Battier's pretty expensive to them.

I don't see that. Perk's more valuable and makes less money.

They do want to have some flexibility this summer in order to re-sign Scola, because they fear other teams could offer him more money than they can afford.

Do you know if clearing Battier's salary give them more flexibility to re-sign Scola or is it unrelated anyway, meaning that with or without Battier they will be able to offer him the same amount?

Right, I am talking about the Rockets.  They are not giving up Battier without getting a LOT of value in return.  He is the heart and soul of that team, and they absolutely love him.

That's a good idea.  Only problem is that neither the Knicks, Kings, nor the Celtics would ever do this deal.

Um, the only team that's not already prepared to do this is the Rockets.

I hear you. Just pointing out that battier is owed $7.5mil, and if the trade includes Jeffries going to them (similar players) they will have Ariza, Martin, Buddinger, Battier and Jeffries all on the same squad -- a squad that remains short on beef up front. Baby could be a better, cheaper fit. Does he start or come off the bench? Regardless he's a good, young fit for them.

Drucci, they can resign Scola regardless. It's more about their willingness to pay him considering their overall salary than anything else. Houston is not typically reluctant to spend, but having an additional $7.5mil can't hurt considering they'd have to pay Jeffries $6.9mil.

Thanks for the clarification!

It's true that it would be better for them to get rid of Battier's contract but Daryl Morey probably won't trade him just for cap relief, so we can only hope and dream until 3PM today.

Well it wouldn't just be for cap relief. It would be for Davis and Walker. So it's actually not fair for me to say they'd be relieved of $7.5mil -- it's be more like $4mil. But they would get a good young player at a position of need, and Walker is a cheap flyer with upside.
