1 title, a financial situation which believe it or not will be ok in 3 years and the ability to rebuild quickly (or reload, if he turns expirings into studs/high draft picks)... I like Danny Ainge

I also like this picture, is it real or photoshopped?

Definitely real. As I recall, the t-shirt was created by the Rambis Youth - a group of younger (college-age?) Laker fans who were loyal followers of Kurt Rambis. They used to dress up and wear the big Rambis glasses (often with tape on the nose). I thought they were hilarious. I have some video footage of Cedric Maxwell having fun with those guys during pre-game of one of the Finals games in 1984. Anyhow, I think the Rambis Youth all wore those t-shirts one time (I think also during the '84 Finals) when the Celtics were in LA. Don't know if they gave one to Ainge or if Ainge went out of his way to ask for one. Either way, it was awesome that Ainge wore it. Classic photo.

If your unhappy with Danny, your the same person who booed him on Maxwell night.  You can go fly a kite. Or go try and land Chris Wallace and thank him for all the hard work he did for your team in the past.

Nobody should be unhappy with Ainge.  He's built you another championship caliber team.  Yet again.

Its on the players.  They have to do it.  Danny can't sit out and nail 3 balls all day for them.  They have to get healthy and do their jobs.

Yeah, Ainge's plan has been brilliant so far - he's just run into some bad luck with injuries. Very few expected the Celtics to win a title right out of the gate with the Big 3, but they did. Last year and this year were supposed to be the titles years for the Big 3. I remain 100% convinced that if KG had stayed healthy last year, the Celts would have repeated. It's not Ainge's fault KG got hurt. This year, same thing. Injuries. The Celts were rolling early on before the injuries.

Sure you could argue that Ainge took a risk knowing that the Big 3 were getting older and one of them might break down earlier than hoped, but every plan has risks. Personally, I think he was wise to go with old vets and deal with the risks of aging as opposed to starting with a youth movement where the risks are injury and unpredictable development. OKC's youth movement looks to be going pretty well, but how many Clippers teams or T-wolves teams are there for every OKC? 5-to-1? 10-to-1? Youth movements are risky business.

I think Ainge has been brilliant. Perfect? No, of course not, But brilliant? Yes.

No

I've yet to hear of a realistic big deal that DA could have done. But I have heard of a lot of whining.

I'm perfectly happy with Danny.  I thought he put together a great off-season -- and most people agreed at the time -- and he's been active in trade discussions.  The fact that he hasn't been able to trade Ray + scrubs into a young star doesn't surprise me; nobody else has been able to make that type of trade, either.

We can see how Ray does in the second half, and maybe he can turn a S&T for a decent replacement.

But i still feel like the team isn't under performing because of age, because before we lost PP and KG we were unstoppable. This team needs to focus and just try harder. Some people want to just trade and trade and trade... but sometimes people are under performing and just need to PICK UP THE SLACK.

The bench has done it, now it's time for the starters.

30 million in expiring contract and all you can get is Nate Robinson?

Ray Allen has now become my least favorite Celtics player. I can't stand his jacking up shots attitude.

I was unhappy with Ainge last year for not doing more to have a bench in place going into the season (and no, I don't mean just giving into Posey's demands)

This season, I am unhappy with the breakdown on the court.  I am unhappy that they will likely trade for Nate.

But I am not unhappy Ainge didn't go out and just trade Ray to trade Ray.  Clearly, Ainge has put a value on Ray and he could not get that value met within a trade.  I have no problem with that.

If JR wasn't a bust.  If the Celtics had a 1st round pick this year.  If someone among Allen Ray, Pruitt, Walker or Hudson ended up being more then a lucky to have cup of coffee in the NBA player.  Maybe if those 'ifs' had happened, the Celtics could have made a trade.

Terrible, terrible reasoning.

Teams generally require something enticing along with the big contract to give up a star.

We have no such players.

Thus the teams all the pie in the sky trade came up with went with better offers.

I see this scenario a ton with boston sports fans (though i assume it's just sports fans in general) they never look at trades objectivly.

I mean, but who wouldn't take a deal involving ray allens contract, scall and big baby for martin over one that included expirings and a stud prospect in landry?

Clearly DA blew that one, he forgot to invoke the inherent "Team X is quite happy to bend over and spread them for a substantialy worse Boston proposal" rule.  ::)

All I can say is that Im glad Ainge doesn't listen to some fans.

If some of you had it your ways, we'd be the knicks circa 2005, taking on bloated contracts for damaged goods just for the sake of making a trade.

The two best case scenarios for this team are:

1- Get healthy, get better, contend for a title this year as they are, with minor adjustments
2- If not healthy and better, blow it up and aim for the 2012 free agent period, when Dwight Howard, Kevin Durant, Rose, and so many more could potentially be available.

And you know what is the beauty of it all? Both scenarios require that we do the same thing: i.e., avoid dumb trades that saddle us with long term deals.

Kevin Martin, Jamison, etc. don't make up for our problems if we are not healthy, but they do kill our flexibility to become major players in free agency two years from now.

Now that the trade deadline is officially over and we did absolutely nothing to improve this team I will say that I am totally disappointed.

But i'm not disappointed in Danny.  He did his best.   Kudos for passing on the Hinrich/Ty Thomas crap sandwich.  That sounds like it was the best we could get and that wasn't worth it.

I'm willing to bet Danny is pretty disappointed too.
