Two struggling teams looked to each other for help on Monday. The Los Angeles Clippers agreed to trade Marcus Camby to the Portland Trail Blazers for Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake, a source close to the situation told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher. The 35-year-old Camby is second in the league in rebounding this season at 12.1 boards per game, to go along with 7.7 points. The Blazers have had a hole in the middle of their lineup since Gred Oden went down with a knee injury in December. The 6-foot-9 Outlaw is averaging 9.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in his seventh season with Portland. Blake, a 6-3 guard, is putting up 7.6 points and 4.0 assists per game. He's coming off a 20-point, 12-assist game in a win over the Suns before the All-Star break.
Good trade for Portland. I wouldn't say so if Travis Outlaw were not an expiring contract, but since he is there's a good chance he wouldn't have signed with them this summer anyway. We should try to get him with the MLE this summer, in my opinion.
Man. They've been reading Celticsblog. Great trade for the clips. Camby wasn't going to stick around next yearI wish they'd gotten more value for Outlaw, but see a need fill a need I guess. When you have a bounty of assets it makes sense to use them if you have to. Outlaw was their "rainy day fund"
In town in advance of their Tuesday game against the Trail Blazers, the Clippers were having a team dinner at Portland’s Ringside steakhouse Monday night when Camby received a call on his cell phone from his agent, Rick Kaplan. Kaplan informed Camby that he will likely be traded to Portland – though one league source cautioned that the Blazers’ ownership had yet to sign off on the trade. After taking the call, Camby immediately walked out of the restaurant. A source close to him says that while he recognizes the benefits of playing for a better team, he is “very upset” about the potential trade because his family is comfortably settled in Los Angeles. He had hoped to re-sign with the Clippers this summer.
AAARRRGGHHHH!!!!There went my trade idea...... Perkins, TA, Scal to PDXfor Outlaw, Blake, and Juwan Howard. I need to stop working until 10:30 at night so I can email my trade ideas from my secret website..... theFrustratedBasketballEngineer.com
I'm sure Camby will come around. I bet if anything he's more upset by the fact that he won't be going to a true championship contender (since this is probably his last shot at playing a significant role on such a team). He may not like moving his family, but he'd probably be okay with it if he were going to a team that gave him a great shot at a ring. Since that's not the case (without Oden, Przbylla the Blazers are at best a 2nd round exit), he probably feels like it's not worth the hassle.I imagine Ray will feel pretty much the same way.
Geez if thats all the Clips want for Camby, I don't know why he isn't in Boston already! We could have sent them Davis, Scal and this years 1st round pick or something.
