I just read that Portland want to pick up a big.  Big Baby would help them with that in that he plays bigger than his height.

Thoughts?

This would give us a solid SF in Martell to spell PP and a decent back up center in Juwan that is fundamentally sound.

Yeah, you can say Davis is a big, but i'm quite sure he is not the kind of big (<-->) they are looking for..

If Portland needs a big, why are they trading their only center to get Davis?

Because he is 37 years old and does not fit their future plans.  They are not a contender this year.  Glen is a young and cheap piece that could help them.  We can throw in a first rounder if need be or J.R. or Walker if they would like.

Juwan needs to be on a team with championships hopes this year.

He's 37, but he's been important for them this year given all the injuries... You basically just pointed out why this trade wouldn't work - they want a big, but this trade makes them smaller. Its completely counterproductive.

RJ,

I see your point.  The point of them doing this trade is not for this year, but for the future.  They will NOT challenge for a title this year will all their injuries.  They should have both their 7 footers back late next year.

I think we can get next to nothing for Obese.  Certainly not someone of the caliber of Martell Webster.  First of all... Obese is a bum.  Second of all... he's a fool.  Lastly... he's not an expiring contract.

Any team that takes that player off our hands is doing us a favor.

I don't think they'll give up Webster and, as RJ87 points out, it's kind of pointless to trade Juwan Howard for short-term big man help, but they'd definitely be interested in Big Baby.

He'd give them someone to body up 5s in the short-term, as well as a guy to provide depth at the 4 once Oden/Pryzbilla return.

I'd love to pry Steve Blake off that team.  He's a much better short-term option than DJ Augustin, given his size, experience,  and playmaking ability.

He also seems like a luxury on that Portland team.  They have Miller, Roy, Bayless and Rudy Fernandez as sexier options in that backcourt.  House wouldn't be bad as a 5th guard for them.

House/Baby for Blake/Mills/Pendergraph works on the trade machine.

SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari

Lol, exactly - they will get 2 7footers back next season. Webster is a much better player than Davis, and next season getting bigger wouldn't be that much of an issue for them. So why do they do this trade?

Martell Webster is a far more valuable player than BBD.

BBD has very little trade value.

And what is in it for Portland, if you don't mind me asking. There is no way on gods green earth that Portland would accept that deal even if you offered KG and Perk and two no 1s for Oden as well.

I think Portland hangs up on us.

They are pretty high on webster, who has been playing ell. They will certainly want more than a 2nd round bench player and a 12th man in return.

and If they are trading for the future, why on earth would the give up a great young SG to get back an undersized four you admit won't fit into thier future plans once thier centers get back?

Trade makes zero sense for portland.

RJ,

Thanks so much for being so professional, I mean juvenile.  "LOL."  Are you serious?  Grow up son.

Let's think about this.  Does Pryz. or Oden have a 15 footer to pull big men out away from the lane? NO!  Are either of them known for their physical presence down low?  NO!  Yes, they both can block shots, but neither are known for pushing bigs off the block, are they?  NO!

Has Martell EVER averaged 16 and 6 in the playoffs?  NO!  Has he ever hit a game winning shot in the NBA semis?  NO!

I don't think they immediately hang up the phone.
