Great question/Post, TP.
If I was coaching?
#1. After about 10-0, someone on the other team should clearly be on the floor. That's number one. These guys, right now, stand around like a bunch of wusses getting butts handed to them on these runs. They need to clock someone. Make it physical. Pretend like they want to be on the court and pretend they don't like getting it "stuck" to them like this. This would be a great start. Have some heart and show it with a meassage.
#2. Stop shooting jump shots when you are not making them and take the ball to the basket. This is BBall 101. Take everythign to the rim, literally. I'd insturct everyone to try and dunk every shot or to basically go head long for the rim. Three good things happen; you either score because you are closer, get fouled and three it lends itself to #1 above...you make it physical.
I CANNOT STAND IT when these guys just jack up lazy jump shots when they are getting hammered. Go to the basket and lift some people, get them in foul trouble.
3. If KG or Pierce aren't putting it forth, yank them. I don't care if they're Michael Jordan. Yank them. I'd rather see Giddens on the floor with all his manic energy and effort ( if futile) than see anyone "mailing it in".
So I might bench them and ask them to let me know if and when they have any interest in playign baksketball with some heart, ferocity and physical intensity. And if it's an injury problem with KG then put baby in and run his butt around for 10-15 games until he drops another 10-15 pounds.
I see most of their problems as pretty simple to solve.
And that is why it's so incredibly frustrating to wath them lately.
I don't think they're too old or too injured. The biggest problem is playign without a sense of urgency and they also make incredibly stupid passess and plays sometimes. it's mind boggling how many cross court passes and soft, dangerous passes for turnovers they make. For a team with perkins and four all stars, you'd think they'd be lowest in the elague in turnovers.
