With the majority of C fans coming to the conclusion that this team as constructed will not win another title, I think we should start considering ALL possibilites for improving this team for the future.

Nobody has ever mentioned the possiblity of trading Perkins. After the Big Three finally moves on, Rondo and Perk (as of right now) will be our future core. Perkins has no consistant offensive game nor will he be able to run with Rondo. Though he is a top 3 defensive center in the league, the main reason he is affective now is because he is surrounded by offensive talent. That will not be the case after the Big Three are gone

With that being said, trading Ray for Kevin Martin or Ellis should not be where we stop. If that trade is to occur this week, let the team play out the rest of the season. Then during the offseason, trade Perk for a young athletic PF/C like Bougut, Randolph, Love, Thomas, etc. Yes we would loose a big defensive presence but it would also make us alot more affective offensively. Because lets face it, Perk will not be able to handle a role of the third/fourth scoring option.

A core of:
Rondo
Martin or Ellis
(Defensive SF)
(Defensive Big)
Bogut or Randolph or Love

Would have a very bright future in the league

Any chance of trading Rashweed Ray and Garnett for Al Jefferson and Minny's filler? Oh wait McHale does not work there anymore.
Wins are few, times are hard. Here is your bleeping St Patricks Day Card.

People have talked about trading Perk (Chris, for one).  I don't think anyone really WANTS to, but the dude's only got one more year on his contract after this, and is looking at a very healthy raise.  Makes only about $4M per right now, which is cheap even for a good BACKUP center.  Given how much he's continued to improve, you have to wonder how much he's going to command on the open market, and if it's worth making that commitment.

Right now, he's the one piece we have (other than Rondo) that other teams have got to be clamoring for.  A guy that was legitimately mentioned as an All-Star candidate, one of the best defensive bigs in the league, making (relatively speaking) peanuts for another season.  You've got to believe that when Danny's calling, offering Ray for Kevin Martin or AI-II or Butler/Jamison or Amare, the other team's looking to grab Perk as well.

Or you can just erase the thread in general... Did you really suggest trading Perkins for Bogut? Or better yet another "young" athletic Center? As far as I'm concerned Perkins is pretty young...And he is fairly athletic. He is a bit slow and he can't jump like Josh Smith...But Andrew Bogut? Really? Kevin Love or Tyrus Thomas? Really? People have no idea what Perk brings to this team and if you havent noticed his offense is improving. Rondo needs an athletic power forward after the KG days are done, Perk will be right there alongside whoever it may be to take control of the defense. I'd rather have Perkins, who has been learning defensive commands from KG for the past three years, rather than Andrew Gobut...What has he ever done?

Perk is a champion, probably a defensive first or second team this year, and an olympic invite...Plus he is the perfect Center for this team now and in the future. Some people really just amaze me.

I would trade Perk but for none of the players you suggested. Amare would be the starting point but of course salaries woudlnt match and I would not trade Ray and Perk for Amare.

I would

Just read that they are willing to part with Barbosa...I'd rather have Barbosa than Stoudemire. And ya'll wouldn't give Perk for Bogut? Bogut is legit on both sides of the ball.

This was discussed just the other day in a thread titled "Perkins".

I suggested teams want some hope for the future if they're going to dump good young players, and expiring contracts don't get it done by themselves.  Considering Perk may command at least 8-10 million, which is too much for a player that only excels at one end of the floor.  He's not catching lobs from Rondo, ever. Just not his game.

Expirings aren't worth what we'd hoped; teams want talent, too.  Those Ray trade threads that were rip-offs or pipe dreams may very well happen if we include Perk.  I'd do it in a second.

To me, trading Perk is pretty much tantamount to blowing the team up.  This team's success is rooted in the defense that is very much rooted by Perk's strong play.  Except in some rare circumstances (and none have been suggested so far), dealing him this year would likely ruin any chances we have at making a title run this year.

Personally, I'd much rather see what this team can do when it gets healthy (it blows my mind how so many people on this board tend to gloss over the fact that much of our recent poor play is largely rooted in injury).  Then, if we colossally fail this year, we can always extend Ray one year and try some sort of "blow up" plan next year.

I would look hard at something like this, but it is very hard to know what kind of value we could actually get for Perk right now.  My guess is guys like Bogut and Love are asking way too much (Bogut is a better player than Perk, and Love has the potential to be, and is in a better contract situation).

Ultimately, I think what Danny will be looking for will be trying to turn Perk into a lottery pick.  If he can do that, I think he will pull the trigger, and then go after a guy like Camby to fill the center spot for a couple of years (as well as transition KG to the Center spot, now that he has slowed down so much).

How about Perk and Ray and our #1 this year for Bosh, Belinelli and Calderon.http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5462191

Why for Toronto: They get the defensive presence they need and something for Bosh instead of nothing at the end of the year. Perk will be the perfect inside presence to compliment Bargnani.

Why for us: Bosh and Rondo great for now and going forward. Belinelli takes Ray's place now and for the future and Calderon is the pg backup we need. We still contend this year and have a solid core going forward.

I don't think Perk has much trade value around the league.

He is a finishing piece to teams, not a building block.

I'd do that trade all day, every day.  Bogut is easily better than Perk.  I bet every GM in the league would do that deal.
