* The Wizards leak that they're discussing trades involving Jamison, Butler, Haywood, etc. with multiple teams in order to drive their price up as teams try to bid against each other.

* The C's are reported to be in discussions with RA for Jamison & Butler.

* Hours later the Mavs not seem to have a deal in place. Yet despite the deal being almost complete, it's not yet announced because....?

Perhaps the sticking point is taking Stevenson? Maybe the Wizards are leaking the Mavs deal so we can raise our price and take on Stevenson's contract as well. Something like RA, Scal, and Giddens for Jamison, Butler, and Stevenson works cap wise and would make sense for the Wizards if they are interested in cutting costs.

Jamison/Butler/Stevenson would be a bad deal for us, so I hope not.  Butler is not an effective complementary player and he's not a good 2-guard.  He's a poorer passing, defending and shooting Paul Pierce.  To top it off, the salary burden next year would be insane.

Miller/Jamison is much better deal for us financially and fit-wise.  It's one of the few trades I would welcome if ownership were willing to swallow the financial burden.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
why not wait?  the deadline doesn't come along for a few more days, so might as well see what teams will get into a bidding war...  yeah, there's a risk involved but it's probably one worth taking.  plus, most people could care less about the washington wizards so in the big picture most won't really give a hoot... ;)

I dont think we will see or hear anything until Wednesday. Maybe Tuesday but Im ok with it. I hope Danny waits it out, plays the field, and listens to all the offers... If the prices are raised too high, oh well we go into battle with the team we have. And thats perfectly ok. If the Wizards or other teams are sending smoke signals then we can call their bluff and make a trade right before the deadline hits.

No I think this is a done deal for the MAvericks. It is a great trade for them too. They give up nothing and get a ton. Dallas can match up with anyone now and likely have the advantage. They have quality depth with the deal too. I wish we could have done this deal. Ray, TA, Walker, Scal and Giddens worked for Butler Haywood, Stevenson and Miller. Huge deal for Mavs since they kept Dampier's contract (which if you don't understand why his contract is the most valuable in the universe, Google DUST chip) and Beabois their young pg. Too bad Dallas beat us to the punch.

Someone tell me what's good about Mike Miller, cause I think it's very possible we take him + Jamison for Ray Allen.

Also....I'll wait till Monday to see if Butler and friends to Dallas actually has a chance of falling through. If it's Tuesday and Butler still isn't a Mav, well, here we go. : )

What's good about Miller?

He's a 29 year old 6'8" SG/SF who is a good rebounder and a .40 lifetime 3 pt. shooter. He does not hog the ball and plays decent defense. He is a good chemistry guy on the court and would be an upgrade for the Cs, based on Ray's play this year to date.  Plus he finally cut his awful hair.

There's a lot that's good about Miller.  He's 40+% from 3 for his career and he can make them coming off screens, spotting up or in transition.  He's very accurate from elsewhere as well.  He's over 50% from the field over his past 3 seasons.  He's a fantastic rebounder at the swing spot, averaging about 7 board per 36 minutes for the past 3 seasons (about as much as Pierce and Ray combined this season, for reference).  He's also a solid ball-handler and a good passer.  Best of all, he's an excellent role player, capable of scoring in bursts or filling the stat sheet as needed.  Defensively he's not that good from what I've seen, but he's not wearing a target either.

Put it this way, he's a much better fit here than Butler, who, while a dangerous isolation player and physical defender, is a mediocre shooter and a ball-stopper.  He's also best-suited to the role that Pierce is already occupying.

I do like Butler for the Mavs however.  They need a go-to option other than Dirk and Howard was stinking up the joint. He also gives them some of the smashmouth toughness Stackhouse used to give them.

I think it's the other way around, the Wizards were probably trying to get a better offer from the Mavs.
