Weighing in here...
I think KG "gets it"...he understands that he is not/can not be the player he once was. He is still a strong veteran leader, and showed it by demonstrating (for Rondo) how to handle questions from reporters about team chemistry. I agree he is still an "impact player" on both ends of the floor, but that's a step down from being dominant. So...he's still useful to us, but I don't think anyone takes on his money unless it is in return for similarly overpaid players (relative to current production) in a deal that does us no good whatsoever.
Ray: Already willing to pass the playing-time torch to younger players, and expressed an understanding that he isn't The Man, and will make less money next year. He gets it, too.
Pierce...something just tells me he isn't going to grow old gracefully. Something tells me he still thinks he's in his prime...that he's the best player in the world. He went mano-a-mano with LBJ and won, and in his mind, I bet he doesn't think it was two years ago. He'll still try to take over, but it won't be there. I think the 8 TO's in the New Orleans game are only the beginning. Will he be able to adjust? I'm not sure.
So what to do? Pierce is a career-Celtic, which makes it tough to trade him. It may be the best move, but I sure wouldn't have the nuts to do it. I don't think Danny does, either.
