Danny is interviewed on WEEI right now and Chris Forsberg is transcripting on Twitter what Danny is saying.

Interesting quotes so far :

Quote
Danny Ainge tells WEEI that he's had no discussions with the Charlotte Bobcats.

Ainge: "We're going to try to do something [in trade market]. It might be something very small, but tweak the personality of our team."

Ainge: We value Ray much more then other teams value Ray.

I wonder if he really didn't discuss with the Bobcats or if he is just lying on that subject (but why?).

Also, his statement about "something very small" seems to be in contradiction with his will to "tweak the personality" of the team. It sounds like he wants to get rid of a player with a personality that might bother our chemistry for a player that could improve. I'm probably overreacting on that quote and it's my personal guess but I find it strange.

Anyway, I guess it means Danny will try to trade our expiring dump for a good bench player.

I think it's pretty clear that Danny won't acknowledge or admit to any rumor unless it's a deal is done. The only way we could probably get him to admit to trade talks is if you had him videotaped and recorded having the talks. I think with Danny you'll never really know you just have to gauge how much support the rumor gets around the league.

I would like to say that Danny wanted to possibly change the chemistry on the court and not necessarily in the locker room.

Reading between the lines, Danny basically confirmed the Augustin rumor is legit (but of course not a done deal).

-He wants to make a small deal
-He wants to change the "chemistry" (this would make sense with both Davis or Sheed
-He said he "likes" Augustin

Clearly, there is a lot of smoke there.

Sounds like no one is looking to take Ray for anything worthwhile.  Oh well stay on them phones DA... I know you will.

That's how I read it as well. He wasn't even asked if he liked Augustin and decided to throw it in there anyhow. Spoke volumes to me.

If Danny felt there were any interesting possibilities for larger deals, he wouldn't talk about it on WEEI. In fact, he'd likely state the opposite to present himself as calm and content to stand pat if needed to his peers.

I think what I'm trying to say is, these types of interviews are pretty meaningless.

Someone else pointed this out on another site, but this feels a lot like right before the Ricky for Wally trade.  At that point, Danny was on the Big Show too, saying similar things, praising Wally, talking about how the team needed a personality change, etc.  Something's brewing.

Ugh... I went from "extremely relieved and confident" to "extremely worried" in the span of 5 seconds, thank you, sir. :-X

You mean praising Ricky right?

Drucci, I think you should breath easy. The parameters that Danny has put on the table for any kind of deal are essentially unattainable for Ray alone. It's a win win!

yes, I remember that WEEI interview Jan 06. those were the times the celtics needed "more character less characters."

Ainge has not been pleased with Big Baby's conduct over the last few months. It comes as no shock that he would make a direct inference to Big Baby's character issues. As pointed out, the Augustin rumor seems to have smoke. I will be honest, I do not think that Augustin helps this team. We are an old team yet we still need veterans. Even if DJ has great character, how does he help this team in the tangible sense?

The Celtics need a point guard, but someone who has mastered the position. He doesn't have to be a star, just someone who plays within himself. Ainge should try and pursue that route instead.

If he's talking about changing the chemistry and small trader, he must be talking about Sheed, right?  I mean the chemistry was great until Sheed got here and trading someone else from position 8-12 really won't change the chemistry.
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

I'm sure if the 'extrapolators' can determine it's BBD then they can assuredly point to Portland in late '08 as another clue into his me first attitude.
