Boston Receives: Butler, Miller, Stevenson, and Haywood

Washington Receives: Ray Allen, BBD, TA, Scalabrine, & Bos 1st Rd Pick

Why for Boston? Butler replaces RA in the starting lineup. Miller adds scoring, shooting, and ball handling off the bench. Haywood is a big body and good rebounder. He also would be a better fit playing alongside the perimeter oriented Sheed. We're forced to take Stevenson, but Miller and Haywood have expiring deals. Plus, Butler's contract expires after next season which does not impact our future.

Why for Washington? They save money (Butler & Stevenson), receive a first rounder, and get back an inexpensive young player (BBD) for next season. They are in full rebuilding mode and would have a huge amount of cap space with the deal and/if Arenas' contract becomes terminated.

my only problem with butler is that I think Ray is probably better than him right now... and Butler is turning 30 next month.  I'm not 100% sold that Butler will be better than Ray this year, next year or the year after that. I don't know if would be a major upgrade.  Whereas Iggy, Kmart and Deng I see as clear upgrades in the present and future.

i think butler is massively overrated. he wishes he were paul pierce. his best days are behind him, and he takes every other night off. no interest.

I think more interesting would be adding Miller and Haywood to our bench.
