well i thought i'd start another ray trade thread.
i've read many trade idea's out here on the blog, most are well reasoned, some are more realistic than others.

here are three blog trades with less desirable variations in parentheses. which does us the most good? which is the most plausible?

1. trade with philly: ray and wallace (or perk) for iggy and dalembert
2. trade with chicago: ray for hinrich and deng (or thomas or salmons.)
3. trade with sacramento: ray for martin and nocioni

Ray for Hinrich or Salmons and Deng would be nice.
How about Ray, Tony A and Walker for Hinrich, Salmons and Tyrus Thomas?

Trade 3.

1) Don't give up Perk

2) Add an impact player

so martin an nocioni over iggy and dalembert? i'd agree unless philly takes wallace. then trade 1 jumps to the top of the list.

Nope.  I like Martin better.  He is a scorer.  That is an important piece to go along with Rondo and Perk when moving past the three star era.

With AI2, the Celtics would be trying to build with three strong defenders, but no go to guys on offense.  Rondo, being a pass first PG, is going to be more effective with a guy like Martin to cash in the passes then AI2.

3 by far!!
Our needs:Less minutes for Rondo&Pierce+Rebounding+Instant Offense

What does 1 give us: We get a big improvement rebounding wise and offensively we have an instant 16+ points. But when we have to match up with Dwight, we need Perk. Simple. Still, you throw in that point Lou Williams I think his name is? Then done deal, they can even have a filler or 2.

What about 2: Deng or Thomas or Salmons. Gimme Deng and Hinrich and BYE BYE RAY! We get a solid Ray replacement plus some good rebounding in Deng, and any loss is made up with a backup PG in Hinrich. But Chicago won't give us Deng, and Thomas and Salmons ain't worth Ray-Ray

What about 3: Hell Yes. See ya Ray... Thanks for the memories they were amazing But.. We get a SG in Martin who has a motor and can score 20 like that. Trouble Playing defense, just like Ray, but he'll learn. Nocioni finally lets Pierce rest 20 minutes a game! Yay! Might have to give up Glen Davis our House but that's fine! This is our roster with minutes per game in ()

Rondo (34)/Quis(8)/House(6)
Martin(34)/TA(7)/Quis(4)/House(3)
PP(30)/Nocioni(15)/TA(3)
KG(30)/Davis (15)/Williams (3)
Perk(32)/Sheed(16)

offensively martin theoretically steps right into allen's role.
nocioni is the kind of tough swing forward we could really use.

in the chicago deal deng is the prize, his length, athleticism  and skills on both sides of the ball would provide a huge boost. it could cause spacing problems on O but with pierce's new found 3 point proficiency i'm sure we could make the adjustments. hinrich would be great on the second unit, his D will bring wins.

the philly deal. only do this if they take wallace. addition by subtraction. and when else would we be able to unload him other than on the coattails of Ray and his expiring contract.

None of the above...

Ray, Scal, and Baby or T.A. for Iggy and Dalembert

Martin is injury prone and needs the ball in his hands to make an impact. I dont see him have that edge factor that some guys seem to have. I dont think he'd fit well in the system.

AI and Sammie are perfect for this team. AI, Rondo, and Perk would be killer for the next few years alongside a roleplaying PP and KG.

I don't like any of the deals in parentheses and I doubt any of the the other deals are remotely likely. It's difficult to see any deal that DA does with Rasheed involved since we would poison the chance for future similar deals where we court players to come to the Cs who could have gone elsewhere. Hinrich and Deng is a pipedream and the other CHI deals range from bad to nightmarish as in Hinrich is overpaid, Salmons is toast, and Thomas is as big a headcase as there is in the NBA.

Both SAC and Philly claim to want something back in return and unless we can convince some one that Glen Davis can actually play above the rim, takes to defense like mother's milk, and is rock-solid both on and off the court, we don't have the goods. Maybe some one will take a late 1st to pick and stash away some Euro like Milos.

I think building around defense is a much smarter idea.  Pierce is still gonna be good for several more years.  When he's gone then we can worry about finding a scorer for our new era.

I also think Iggy would be the better fit on our current team.  He just goes better with Pierce and Rondo, especially with Pierce taking over the sharpshooter role.  And he fills the only hole in our defense.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Ray and Wallace for Iggy and Dalembert.  I wouldn't give up Perk.  But I don't know why Philly would take Wallace.

Boston Trades Ray Allen and Big Baby
Gets Barbosa, Jefferies and Harrington

Phoneix Trades Stoudamire and Barbosa
Gets Ray Allen and Big Baby

NYK Trades Jefferies and Harrington
Gets Stoudamire

Reasons it works

Celtics - They get a younger fast moving two guard that can shoot, Harrington as a 3/4 who can score for the second unit and Jefferies to provide Scal with someone he can beat in one on one.

Phoenix - They get Ray Allen who can start at their SG with Ricahrdson playing the SF giving them 4 deadly shooters on the floor including Frye.  They get big baby for some beef in the middle.

NYK - They will have Stoudamires Bird Rights and can offer him the most money to stay in NYK.  Also can sign max another max player.

I am sure someone would not do the deal but is interesting.

I prefer Iggy as a player over Martin, but I think you make an excellent point here...
