Not to hijack the thread further, but it doesn't seem worthy of a new topic...

The Der would have a really hard time keeping KD if Jeff Green were traded.  They have such chemistry on and off the court.  They are a really tight knit group.  Harden KD and JG are constantly hanging out.

I think a better deal here is something like

Boston trades Ray Allen and Glen Davis
Boston receives Kirk Hinrich and Kevin Martin

Chicago trades Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas and Taj Gibson
Chicago receives Ray Allen

Sacramento trades Kevin Martin
Sacramento receives Tyrus Thomas, Glen Davis and Taj Gibson

Boston trades away their big expiring contract in Ray while assuming a lot of salary in return but in doing so sets them up as possibly having the best backcourt in the game for the next three years

Chicago gets rid of Thomas' cap hold if they don't renounce him and Hinrich horrible contract for them and get a ton of cap relief, though giving up Gibson stings a little, which might allow them to wiggle to major free agents in through straight out signings or through sign and trades using Ray Allen as a chip

Sacramento clears their backcourt and decides on Tyreke Evans will getting the young big man help they so desperately want

And this works

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygsltoz

Three problems:

1) Chicago isn't going to give up Taj Gibson in this deal. Not saying they should or shouldn't, but they won't.

2) Sacramento doesn't rid itself of a contract in trading Martin. Unless they get a very good player in return, they won't trade Martin without dumping Nocoini, Udrih or Garcia (likely in that order of preference).

3) Sacramento trades for 3 guys who play the same position, and the same position as Thompson, none of whom is a starter. They need a 5, not 4s. They'd be happy to get one, but not three.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Here is my idea:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yznosrg

Boston Trades:
Ray Allen, Brian Scalabrine
Boston Receives:
Kevin Martin, J Pargo, ANdres Nocioni

Bulls Trade:
Kirk Hinrich, Ty THomas, J Pargo
Bulls Receive:
Ray Allen

Sacramento Trades:
Kevin Martin, Andres Nocioni
Sac Receives:
Kirk Hinrich, B Scalabrine, J Pargo

Why Boston: Replaces Ray Allen with comparable player, upgrades bench in J Pargo and Nocioni

Why Chicago: Gets shooter they still need, sheds Hinrich's contract and gets ty thomas outta town.

Why Sac: They get back the young big they want in Ty Thomas, they get a solid vet player to help mentor/toughen up Tyreke Evans in Hinrich, also Hinrich is just the type of player/point that can work with Evans, as opposed to limit him.

Martin could never replace Ray.

The best I can come up with between these three:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygv48mn

I think everyone gets what they want here except the Cs, simply because they won't sign up for all this salary -- at least I can't believe they would, especially considering the doom and gloom of the impending CBA negotiation.

I just can't come up with a deal i think is realistic between these 3 teams that doesn't involve the Cs taking both Hinrich (or Salmons) AND Nocioni (or Garcia or Udrih) in order to pry Martin out of SAC, leaving us in this salary conundrum.

Otherwise, I think Sacramento and Chicago accomplish their goals here.

Signing-and-trading Ray in the offseason could be a nice chip for the Kings -- a team that struggles to attract FAs. Meanwhile he's an ideal vet presence for a young team. No idea how they feel about Thomas but they could sure use a defensive presense upfront.

Chicago would high five all day about this deal. They might even prefer to take another expiring like House or TA (and just cut him) instead of Baby.

By the way, here's a tidbid from Ian Thomsen's mailbag this week:

"The Bulls are playing good ball, but realistically, they are not going to be a playoff contender or challenger this year. Would it not make sense to trade Kirk Hinrich for some expiring contracts, such as to the Lakers for Jordan Farmar, Adam Morrison and Josh Powell, who all can fill Chicago's holes while the Lakers get a big guard who can play the point?
-- Robert R., Santa Barbara, Calif.

That would make sense for the Lakers, definitely. While that potential trade wouldn't help Chicago much on the court, it would provide the Bulls with more cap space to apply to free agents this summer as they seek a lineup that exploits the strengths of Derrick Rose.

The two teams that appear to be in the market for Hinrich as an expensive third guard are the Lakers and Celtics, both of whom need a backup point guard. There doesn't appear to be a large market for Hinrich as he's a luxury item at $17 million over the two full seasons ahead. And I'm not buying rumors of Ray Allen going to Chicago for a Hinrich package. When they discussed a potential deal in December, the Celtics were planning to give up Glen Davis and expiring money."

This speaks with some vailidity to my trade idea above, as well as the obvious -- the Cs are not trading Ray Allen for a series of Bulls back-ups.

BOS Sends - R. Allen, Scalabrine, Davis, House, T. Allen, Daniels
BOS Gets - Martin, Nocioni, Hinrich, Salmons, Udoka

CHI Sends - Hinrich, Salmons, T. Thomas
CHI Gets - R. Allen, Daniels, May

SAC Sends - Martin, Nocioni, May, Udoka
SAC Gets - T. Thomas, Scalabrine, Davis, House, T. Allen

Chicago clears a ton of cap, gets a better fit at starting shooting guard and secures two solid wing reserves. Most importantly, they go into the off season with $30M in cap space.

Sactown improves their cap position and clear some gridlock on the wings. Plus, they meet their demands of young talent with Thomas and Davis.

Rondo - Hinrich
Marting - Udoka
Pierce - Salmons
Garnett - Nocioni
Perkins - Wallace

Enough said.

Not sure I understand your response? Five of those guys are well known for their defense, and only Martin is a real liability. The starting five is essentially intact, all five bench players can shoot the three, Hinrich and Nocioni bring a lot of energy off the pine. At least four of those guys can get in Lebron's way...

This team would be a heavy favorite for the championship, unless you look through purple color glasses.

The only real problem is that our payroll would aproach $95 million ($10 higher than this year). One simple way around that is to re-up Pierce for 4 years $12, $12, $10, $10 instead of $21.5, $8, $7, $6).
