Quote
League sources say the Kings continue to tell inquiring teams that they have no interest in moving Kevin Martin, especially in scenarios intended solely to create salary cap space by freeing them of his contract.

Martin has been frequently mentioned in trade rumors, largely due to the perceived opinion that he will be unable to share a backcourt with Tyreke Evans.

So I guess we can scratch Martin off the list as possible trades straight up with the C's. They don't want expiring contracts for him.

this is why i created the three-way with phili -- they're more likely to trade for expirings and would rather trade iggy to the western conference and sac actually wants delambert.

i'd be interested to see other three way ideas that have martin landing in boston.

yea good trade proposal ,I like it. Later in the article it says they are looking for defensive help in the middle

Quote
Our defense is too soft," he said. "It's too soft in the middle. We don't do a good job controlling the dribbler. We don't do a good job helping with the screen. We don't do a good job of rotating and covering the basket. A lot of those things are experience-type things, team defense that is being learned by the young players. But some of it is effort, and we have to sort out which is which as we go forward."

Iggy and Dalembert would definitely give them the defense they are looking for.

The Kings may not want to trade martin alone for a salary dump but if we take on Nocionis contract as well they would probably do it

Right -- the deal i'd proposed had us taking Martin and Garcia or Nocioni, SAC getting Iggy and Delambert, and Phili getting Ray and Kenny Thomas.

Many feel Iggy is a poor fit for the Kings. I think he's be a great #2 to Evans -- like Pippen was to Jordan, to use a comparison loosely.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
It sounds to me like their target is Amare
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

The "league source" in this case is probably Geoff Petrie trying to jack up the price for Martin.

I think the Kings would have some interest in a player like Sam Dalembert but I don't see them sacrificing Kevin Martin to get him.

Hard to tell, I don't know whether Petrie would be interested in that ... but he shouldn't be. It's a bad deal.

(1) Too much salary. Closes off to many doors down the road.
(2) Iggy + Evans aren't a good fit together either. Evans needs shooters around him.

I think it would take two bad contracts for Sacramento to consider a Kevin Martin salary dump at this stage.

That may change by the off-season though.

untrue on point one. it only closes doors this summer before delambert's expiring deal becomes attractive next year (especially for a team that has a hard time attracting free agents -- a $12mil trade chip could be huge). meanwhile iggy makes less than martin and garcia or nocioni combined, all of whom are currently signed to the kings long-term and the latter two of which are untradable by themselves.

i just asked J.A. Adande about this on ESPN (not that his opinion means much), as follows:

Tim (Boston):
JA, you've commented on a couple of my trade ideas before. Here's one for you. Considering the ongoing talk about the three main players here, what about Martin and Garcia to Boston, Ray Allen and Kenny Thomas to Phili, and Iguodala and Delambert to Sacramento? Or do you feel a direct match between Phili and Boston here makes more sense?

J.A. Adande  (3:20 PM):
Without checking the numbers to see if it would work I like the idea...but dont think Philly would sign off on it because they want more than just an expiring contract. That's why they haven't been able to move Iguodala. Then again, as one GM framed it for me, the 76ers are willing to move Iguodala, but not TRYING to move Iguodala. Bit of a difference.

I'd suggested in my proposal that the Sixers would need to get a lottery protected 1st in this deal. Not sure if it's the Cs or the Kings giving it, but I stand by that.

makes sense to me . Why would the Kings try to create cap space? No decent FA is going to jump at the chance to sign with them so what's the point, they may as well keep whatever good players they actually do have.

My mistake. I missed the Francisco Garcia part. More money going out than coming in.

So the Kings would have = Iggy + Noce (2012) + Dalembert (2011) + Udrih + Evans + Thompson + some rookie contracts on the books ... okay.

Edit: Around $50 million in 2010 free agency + close to $40 million in 2011 free agency. In the meantime, the team should play above .500 basketball post trade and finish with a high lottery pick this season and possibly next season.
