Ray and Wallace for Iggy and Brand

Why for Boston:

We get Iggy who can become part of our core for years to come along with Rondo and Perk

We get a legitimate big guy to join a rotation of Perk and KG in the front court, who can even play Center (despite being undersized).

No more worries about bad shot selection from Wallace :)

There's a chance Ray gets waived and we get him back

Why for Philly:

Shed two huge contracts to free up cap room to become major free agent players.  Yes, Wallace still has a couple of years, but at about a third of what Brand is making.

Yes, Brand has 3 more years, but I think the demise if Elton Brand is overrated.  I think he is solid all round, and seems to be getting his game back after recent injuries.

My other concern is we lose 3 point shooting, but I still do it.  I'd even throw in a first if necessary.

Thoughts?

No Brand, no Dalembert, no Louis Williams.

It would have to be Kapono, and if Boston throws in a second player, Philly must include Speights or Holiday.

Iguodala's deal is a cap crusher, and that's what I would need to take it on.

Tempting, but you're paying too much to Brand and KG to play the same position. The Cs lux tax situation starts to get -- as Tommy H would say -- ridiculous.

14M per year which will take the 26 year old AI through his prime isn't that bad of a cap hit. Especially when you consider that he will continue to improve as a player and would be pretty lethal on the break with Rondo. He has the potential to be an all-star for the duration of the deal.

I'd rather make a Iguodala+Dalembert+Williams for Ray+Perkins deal.

Brand's contract runs longer than KG's and he can't guard PFs any more.

I'd rather trade Rasheed than Perkins. But neither would happen -- the Cs aren't trading Perk, and Phili isn't taking Sheed. The deal would include the likes of Scal instead.

I don't think we can take on that much salary with Rondo's contract popping up to around $10 million or so next year.  Part of whatever Danny would get for Ray would have to be expiring.  Iggy/Brand numbers don't work.  This doesn't get off the ground.

Also, 'Sheed's contract has a trade bonus that is paid at the time of the trade...I think it's 15% of whatever's left on the deal, making him nearly untradable this year.  (Make no mistake, 'Sheed did not sign here for any bargain or discount).

We don't even need to get to the talent side of things to shoot this one down.

Yeah.  Brand's contract is bad for anyone, much less a team that will likely be on the hook to pay fellow thirtysomething big men KG and Sheed big money in 2012.

Your counter proposal would probably make Wyc's head explode, however.  That would put our payroll at $90 mil with just 8 players.  That's more than $6 mil above our current payroll.  Combine that with a lower luxury tax threshold and you'd be asking him to shell out at the very least $15 mil more than this year.

Take out Lou Williams and that deal starts to approach the outer limits of his checkbook.  Substitute Sheed for Perk and restructure Paul's 21 mil to $15 mil per for multiple years and I think he might actually sign off on it.
