In order to trade Ray Allen we need to get somebody back who is as good or better than him, only younger and with a less expensive contract.

Those are high expectations for a trade, but that's what Danny should be asking for if he's considering breaking up the starting 5.

Basically, what I think we need to start looking at here is a couple of things/situations.

1)  Keep Ray Allen for the remainder of the season and ride things out.  Hope to get him at a reduced contract next year.

2)  Trade him for a mix of talent

What I think people sort to need to adjust to, is that if we trade Ray Allen, we're not gonna get a "blow you away" type of package.  It's just not going to happen.  Most likely you're gonna get a similar or lesser talent with a bloated contract and some filler to made the trade a go.  The filler probably isn't going to get much better than a Tyrus Thomas type.  Someone who has an inclination of talent but is expendable enough for an organization to part with in order to get that bloated contract off their books.

We need to lower our level of expectations for what return we may get from a Ray Allen trade.

This is just a repeat of the Yahoo story. The suntimes writer is even using some of the same phrases. Wyc Grousbeck last night said that the Celtics are looking to add a piece without subtracting a piece and they are willing to back a bad contract if that player would help them.

Sounds to me like spare part expirings (House, TA,Scal,Giddens, Shelden etc.) for someone (Hinrich, Maggette, Prince etc.).

If Tyrus Thomas were included in this trade, I'd think hard about it. Thomas is a shot blocker and can rebound the ball. Granted, he's not a great rebounder (and we need great rebounding! Because we're not a good rebounding team this year!), but he'd be an interesting option to throw out there when Big Baby isn't producing or the lineup calls for a more athletic big who plays closer to the basket.

One of the problems with the Celtics is that their bigs tend to play too far from the basket. Acquiring Thomas would potentially help correct that problem. But Thomas is also not a huge upgrade talent wise over what we already have. Some would argue that he is a talent downgrade from a healthy Big Baby and mentally stable Rasheed Wallace.

I agree I really like Thomas and the idea of him learning under KG. This year he is averaging 1.75 blk and 1.25 stls with 6 rebs in only 23 mins a game. Those are some pretty impressive defensive stats . He would be a great fit and could possibly be KG's replacement of the future.

I'd prefer to include Portland if possible to modify the trade and fit needs.

Chicago:
Incoming Players
  Ray Allen
  Bill Walker
  Travis Outlaw
Outgoing Players
  Kirk Hinrich
  Jerome James
  Tyrus Thomas

Boston:
Incoming Players
  Kirk Hinrich
  Jerome James
  Rudolfo Fernandez
Outgoing Players
  Ray Allen
  Bill Walker

Portland:
Incoming Players
  Tyrus Thomas
Outgoing Players
  Travis Outlaw
  Rudolfo Fernandez

Then first round picks, cash, and whatever to balance it out if necessary.

Nobody's going to pay Ray big money starting next year. He's fast becoming a (very good) role player.

What? $9-10 million. That's Anderson Varejao/Kirk Hinrich money.

As for Davis's BFF, Thomas is unfocused, still unproven and a free agent at the end of the season who would have to be over-paid - since New York or another desperate, cap-rich team is certainly going to make a run at him.

I'm not sure why everyone bags on Hinrich.  He obviously isn't Ray Allen, but he is a solid player and a very good shooter (lowest career 3pt% is 35 and twice over 40%).  He can play both the point and shooting guard positions (against most teams) and is generally a nice player.

Thomas is also a solid young player.  The numbers don't work with just those two, so someone else also has to come to the C's.

I wouldn't mind that trade, though I think there are better options out there like Golden State.

Heinrich is shooting 37% from the field. You can call him a number of things -- a good shooter is not one of em. His shots breed fastbreak buckets for every team he plays against.

He and Rondo should not share a back court. Nor should he and Daniels, or he and TA. Paul Pierce would see more double teams than Jenna Jamison.

This makes more sense.
Ray,Davis and Giddens for Tyrus, Hinrich and Salmons
To keep the efficiency in our starting 5 the lineup should be...

Rondo - Salmons - Pierce - KG - Perk
Hinrich - Daniels - Tony - Tyrus - Sheed
House and Scal get minutes during injuries and garbage time.

Starting unit would have 2 shooters,slasher/passer and 2 post players. Also the defense would be outstanding with Salmons.

Our bench would no longer have a problem running an offense with Quis and Kirk. Tony can still slash and defend while Tyrus brings the much needed athleticism to our 2nd unit with a new option of catching oops and blocking shots from the weak side.
Sheed could then continue to pull the opposing C out of the paint, leaving the lane open for Quis/Tony to slash.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Out of all the trade rumors, This is probably the worst one. I hope to God this never happens.

I would have been a lot bigger fan of this trade 3 years ago... before I realized that neither player is really that good.

But Ooo-wee...  you tell me 3 years ago that we can trade an old 34 year old SG for Hinrich and Ty Thomas... I'm all over it.  Back before we had a young allstar running the show... when Hinrich was a viable starting PG ... and Ty Thomas seemed to have untapped star potential.

But now?... Pass...

I mean... there was a time when I sat on these forums arguing that we needed to trade Paul Pierce for a package centered around Ty Thomas and Luol Deng.   Ty is nowhere near as interesting to me 4 years later.  And Hinrich borderline sucks

I hope this is not going to happen.
point one: Chicago will have a lot of space for next year, so they will be for sure a serious contender.
point two: Ray is still one of the best shooters of the entire NBA. What if we will face Chicago (once again) in post season, with Ray in red jersey? I'm already scared.
point trhee: hinrich is a good backup, I repeat a Backup and not more.
Thomas sucks, only atheticism, but nothing more....
C'mon danny, don't do this.

I don't think you need to go 3 years back in fact he was pretty good against on our own Boston Celtics just last year...lol

His defense is light years better and I also believe playing alongside a real PG will elevate his FG%.

I would be more than happy with this deal.

To me, there seems to be a missing part to this trade for the Celtics.
