Remember, Danny Ainge isn't looking to trade Ray. But he's definitely listening.

I think this is about right -- Danny is probably not pursuing any trades, but has made it clear that he will listen.

He may pull the trigger if:
(a) he feels the trade brings back a good player that makes the Celtics more competitive in the long run while not sacrificing too much in the short term;
(b) injuries mount and it is less likely the Cs are a contender this year;
(c) the Cs don't right the current ship (the W against Miami was nice, though).
Celtics fan for life.

This rumored Bulls deal is crap, in my opinion, and I hope Danny stays away from it.

Hinrich + Salmons or Hinrich + Tyrus Thomas is simply not enough of a reason to break up the starting 5.

"Chicago would be interested in retaining Allen next season at a reduced price."

If Ray leaves and plays well for Chicago the rest of the season he will not be signing at a reduced price. The number of teams with Cap space will exceed the number of good players.

If he doesn't stay in Boston expect Ray to go to an elite team or sign for big money. Neither of those prospects has him going staying in Chicago.

This would be a terrible trade. Ray Allen is worth much more than anything Chicago could conceivably trade to us.

Kirk Hinrich is PAINFULLY inefficient.

Ray Allen is so important, despite his struggles. Trust me: Ray still has it. If his regular season MPG goes down to 32, he'll be draining it like old times.

We'd have to get a really solid SG who we could keep in our starting rotation for a couple years and still be able to contend. Someone like Monta Ellis or Andre Iguodala.

Any trade to Chicago would be devastating.

I don't understand why anyone would want Kirk Hinrich.  His contract + his play his horrible.

Wonder what makes this a "viable" rumor rather than just a rumor?

Seems like another specualatory article to me.

I'm not sure why everyone bags on Hinrich.  He obviously isn't Ray Allen, but he is a solid player and a very good shooter (lowest career 3pt% is 35 and twice over 40%).  He can play both the point and shooting guard positions (against most teams) and is generally a nice player.

Thomas is also a solid young player.  The numbers don't work with just those two, so someone else also has to come to the C's.

I wouldn't mind that trade, though I think there are better options out there like Golden State.

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

  Nobody's going to pay Ray big money starting next year. He's fast becoming a (very good) role player.

Well, this is just a rehash of the same rumor that has been talked about for weeks.  But it does not seem to want to die.  It really could be interesting if the C's could get Thomas along with Hinrich.  That could be the type of deal that could make this team better this season, because of both player's defensive skills.  I still will be surprised to see the C's take on a contract like Hinrich's, but if its attached to a guy like Thomas, at least it would make a little sense.

Wouldn't Boston want Ray at a reduced rate as well?

This is awful on so many levels.  I dont believe that either of those guys can play championship ball.  I also don't see how that would fill the 2 guard void, Hinrich starting on a championship team?? Doubtful.

And when would Tyrus Thomas play.  This deal does not seem sweet enough at all.  Maybe we could convince them to take BBD or Sheed, and Toss in John Salmons to make the deal make a little more sense.

In that way, we get a more energy big in Tyrus, and a solid starting 2, and backup in Hinrich.

If we have Kirk as our starting 2 guard that would be so bad. At least get a valuable scorer if were getting the 2 guard for Ray. The only thing that would good that could come out of that deal is Tyrus Thomas and a big expiring contract in jerome james.

I am actually envisioning Kirk coming off the bench, with Daniels starting.  I think a backcourt off the bench of Kirk, House, and Tony, with Thomas able to play some SF, really makes this team significantly better.
