He just refuses to listen to reason, and understand that he is WRONG.

Quote
First of all, Ray stays here because I don't think Danny Ainge will find enough value to move him and still compete for a title this spring. At the end of the season his $20 million comes off the books. Next, Paul has to opt out of his $21 million dollar final season. Once he does this, Danny can then offer $18 million or so to a free agent like . . . say . . . Joe Johnson. Then Pierce would re-sign a team-friendly deal that would allow him to retire a Celtic while having a younger roster to work with en route to another possible title.

Now, there is NBA language that would prevent the Celtics from using the Larry Bird rule (which states a team can re-sign its existing player for more money than a new club).  The language states that if the team renounces Pierce’s deal, it cannot use the Larry Bird rule. This would not be the case, as Pierce would agree to opt out of his deal and then re-sign a new contract after help arrives.

Yeah, he's just completely oblivious.

Can't get worked up over it at this point.

Even the MLE would be off the table if they renounce Pierce. Tanguay, please stop.

Chris, can I convince you to do a writeup on why Tanguay is wrong for the front page?

Great idea. He sent an e-mail that could me modified slightly that'd do the trick.

Absolutely.  I have already written 3 emails about it.  I'll put it together.

The MLE is gone when Pierce is renounced and the LLE isn't available this offseason either. Basically, signing Pierce for the league minimum is the only way this could happen.

Not to mention that we wouldn't have enough room to pay what Joe Johnson's asking price is anyways.

The thing I don't really understand is that Tanguay is around the Celtics somewhat.  He attends some of the press conferences, is at the Garden a lot, does his CSN gig, etc...

You'd think at some point, he'd either pick up on things from someone in the organization or a fellow media person would educate him on this stuff.

Gary is just spewing Celtics propaganda. I believe Wyc threw out a similar theory on TV. Which was complete garbage. He's just throwing out what he heard IMO.

The difference is, Wyc threw it out before Rondo (and I believe Wallace and Davis) were signed for next season.  So it was possible that Pierce could opt out, and they could have had enough money to pay him, and someone else.

Wyc said it before Rondo's extension.

Potentially without Rondo's increased salary we could have done something if Pierce had opted out and signed a cheaper long term deal. It was very unlikely but with Rondo's deal its completely out of the question now.
