It's obvious the Celts have lost their swagger, and other teams no longer fear them.  Players in their 20's rule now, and 4 of the C's top 6 players are 32 or over.  Their biggest need right now is to get younger to stay competitive.  I think it would be a good idea to alter the ratio of playing time so that their players in their 20's (collectively) play a majority of the minutes.  It would improve the levels of energy, tenacity and endurance.
The 30 year olds would be in a better position to close out games.

I'm proposing to give 60% of the minutes to the guys in their 20's and 40% to those in their 30's.  Here's how it might work:

There are 240 total minutes to divide up (5X48).
144 minutes (60%) goes to guys in their 20's.
96 minutes (40%) to guys in their 30's.
Possibilities, when at full strength and no trades:

32 Rondo           30 Pierce
26 Perk            24 Garnett
24 T. Allen        24 R. Allen
24 Davis           18 Wallace
24 Daniels
14 Williams

144 Total          96 Total

House and Scal get squeezed, and are on standby.

The starting line-up could be altered or remain the same.  Substitutions would be made early and often.  No two-platooning, just integrate the players so they get used to playing in whatever combo is out there.
Giving the bench guys 20 something minutes, instead of in the teens, would allow them to develop more consistency.

These are just rough parameters.  (I had some time to kill this morning.)

Without even commenting on your main idea, you're taking minutes away from Rondo and Perk and giving them to backup playrs. That by itself makes us worse.

this isn't the way it works anyways... every night there's match ups and fouls and stuff that screws with your numbers.

  • Rondo = Good
You can't go with a set rotation every night due to matchups and foul trouble, but ideally the team minutes should look like this:

Rondo - 36-38 minutes
Ray - 32-34 minutes
Pierce - 33-35 minutes
KG - 30-32 minutes
Perk - 32-35 minutes
Sheed - 20-25 minutes
House - 10-12 minutes
TA - 15-20 minutes
BBD - 10-15 minutes

Mix and match from there, it's not important.  Ideally Scal should never have to play more than 5-8 minutes if everyone is healthy, and TA's minutes might go down a lot if Marquis were healthy (and hopefully Eddie would play less, too).
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

That's about the way it is now, and it's not working so well.

No way TA and BBD should be playing as many or more minutes that KG and Ray.  No way.

Reducing KG's minutes would be for health reasons.  There's already a thread suggesting he sit for a month.  I don't want him to sit, just play fewer minutes (until he can finish off an alley-oop from Rondo).

I'd like to see TA start and have Ray come in as 6th man.  He would provide more instant offense than House.
Ray's scoring has waned this year, and when he's not scoring a lot of points he's not having much of an impact on the game.  Most people on this sight seem to want to trade Ray.  I don't want to trade him, just change his role.  He'd still be my first choice to take the last shot.

I'd be happy to give more minutes to Rondo and Perk at the expense of Williams and Daniels, but I'd still like to see the over 30 guys play fewer minutes (except for Pierce).
